An accomplished and experienced saxophonist, Paul Peacock is one of the exciting new faces on the jazz scene in Texas. He has a voice all his own with the influences of past masters such as Joe Henderson, John Coltrane, and Sonny Rollins. There is also a definite contemporary influence from Michael Brecker, David Liebman, and Chris Potter as well. His music is both fiery and subtle, engaging the listener in a variety of texture.
His performing career spans over 12 years as both a leader and sideman. He has shared the bandstand with many of the most recognizable names in jazz such as Louis Belson, Ernie Watts, Dennis Dotson, and Tony Campise. As a recording artist, Paul is comfortable and efficient in the studio. He has recorded in a variety of styles ranging from R&B, gospel, jazz, Latin, and funk/fusion. Fluent on all saxophones, he has performed on every saxophone in the section as well as Classical and chamber ensembles.
Mr. Peacock holds a Bachelors degree and a Masters degree in Music from Sam Houston State University, where he served as Graduate Teaching Assistant in 2003 and conducted the SHSU Jazz Lab Band. He has won numerous performance awards including an award in the 2001 North American Saxophone Alliance Jazz Competition, IAJE Outstanding Performance Awards, Outstanding Performance Awards at SHSU, Kansas State, and Lamar University Jazz Festivals.
When not busy with a constant studio teaching , private performance, and recording schedule, Paul can be seen regularly performing at many of the finest jazz clubs in Houston.
