I am delighted that Marie Colvin has been nominated posthumously for the Orwell Prize.
"Marie is a light that will never go out."
Here is a poem I wrote from my book "The Incomplete Works" which was inspired by Marie.
"War is a goldfish bowl."
"War is a goldfish bowl....
You are swimming but going nowhere....
There is light through the glass but you can't see....
You are blinded by the crass stupidity of despair....
The food is rations dropped from a sealed packet....
Washed up, dried up, arriving from a falling motion....
I don't belong here, this is not the ocean....
My air is recycled and I can't breathe ....
An artificial world which gives nothing to me ....
As I look above, out of my prison....
There's a blue sky with smoke and fire.....
I can see but there is no vision....
Freedom = "let me live to be alive"....
Open the door....
War is not living anymore."....
