About me:

Evo Throws US Ambassador Out of Bolivia
Peace Corps Bolivia follows.

THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THIS PAGE

First of all, this page is not "official" or in any way associated with peace corps administration in Washington DC or Bolivia. Secondly, this is a page reserved for RPCV's of Bolivia. It is a way for us to keep in touch without sending random bulletin board messages to friends in the states who don't give a rats ass about bolivian despedidas, giardia, who's planning what activites for christmas, and what sort of drinking reunions are going on in the states in true Blackmont style.
If you would like to send a bulletin to all volunteers without sending it to everyone else, send me the message and I'll post it.

In the News

Original 1960's PC Expulsion headline from Bolivia
Here's a link to a readable text version of the newsprint

Interview with Evo on Democracy Now. Read it here.

In an article in the NY Times - Feb 2, 2007 about the ski hill in La Paz.
Good quotes:
--"I thought training at this altitude would offer some advantages," said José Manuel Bejarano Carvajal, 50, a member of the team that competed in the Winter Olympics in Sarajevo in 1984. "But I finished last." Mr. Bejarano said Bolivia was represented in the Olympics as recently as 1992, before its team was disbanded.
--Alfredo Martínez, 72, a sprightly former skier and mountain climber, said global warming had nothing to do with the snow's disappearance. Mr. Martínez said it was because "Bolivia's women have grown too mischievous." He did not explain his joke further, and the younger women who had come for the first day of skiing this year were not amused.

IN THE BLOG - Canje and Unofficial Canje

I'm working on putting up old versions of el canje. Right now they are in PDF format which I can't post directly on MySpace unless I save all 50 pages per issue as individual JPEG files. We have a few linked right now (B-32 through B-35 from a geocities site, but geocities is being a bit of a carajo about bandwidth and keeps shutting the site down. I'm trying to set up a mirror site, at pcbolivia.bloggeddown.net but they have an issue with the pdf's being password protected. And we need to keep them that way so the spam machines won't suck out the email address included in the surveys. Bear with me for the moment, I'll get it worked out.
Also, If you have any good PC bolivia pics, send those my way as well. I'll put those up. Picture suggestions include PC despedidias, swearing-in parties, more pics of volunteers and Evo, and any other typical PC mayhem.
If you have any good PC stories, I'll put those in the Blog as well.

NEW IN THE BLOG
I put up some tips for volunteers who have been in site for about 6 months. Check it out in the BLOG.

Couch Surfing (in the States and in Bolivia)

I also see this as a great way for me to plan out where I (or anyone else) can couch surf. If you have open room, lemme know and I'll put it in the "Where are other volunteers" section.

Cheers,
Kennedy, B-36

Who I'd like to meet:
Boliva PCV's and RPCV's. If you want to be 'my friend' send along a message with the request and tell me what group you're from. It will help me sort out who is a volunteer and who is a 14 year old girl in Rhode Island surfing the web trying to be cool.
If you are not a volunteer but still want to be 'my friend' you must provide me with copious amounts of beer next time I see you at Blackmont.
Oh! and I will no longer be putting current volunteers in the "Where are other volunteers?" section. It's giving me a hell of a headache keeping up with that crap. If you really have an overwhelming desire to be listed in that group, send a message to me and I'll think about it.

The Mad Farmer Liberation Front
by Wendell Berry

Love the quick profit, the annual raise,
vacation with pay. Want more
of everything ready-made. Be afraid
to know your neighbors and to die.
And you will have a window in your head.
Not even your future will be a mystery
any more. Your mind will be punched in a card
and shut away in a little drawer.
When they want you to buy something
they will call you. When they want you
to die for profit they will let you know.

So, friends, every day do something
that won't compute. Love the Lord.
Love the world. Work for nothing.
Take all that you have and be poor.
Love someone who does not deserve it.
Denounce the government and embrace
the flag. Hope to live in that free
republic for which it stands.
Give your approval to all you cannot
understand. Praise ignorance, for what man
has not encountered he has not destroyed.

Ask the questions that have no answers.
Invest in the millenium. Plant sequoias.
Say that your main crop is the forest
that you did not plant,
that you will not live to harvest.
Say that the leaves are harvested
when they have rotted into the mold.
Call that profit. Prophesy such returns.

Put your faith in the two inches of humus
that will build under the trees
every thousand years.
Listen to carrion - put your ear
close, and hear the faint chattering
of the songs that are to come.
Expect the end of the world. Laugh.
Laughter is immeasurable. Be joyful
though you have considered all the facts.
So long as women do not go cheap
for power, please women more than men.
Ask yourself: Will this satisfy
a woman satisfied to bear a child?
Will this disturb the sleep
of a woman near to giving birth?

Go with your love to the fields.
Lie down in the shade. Rest your head
in her lap. Swear allegiance
to what is nighest your thoughts.
As soon as the generals and the politicos
can predict the motions of your mind,
lose it. Leave it as a sign
to mark the false t

I was 4 minutes late for a flota the other day and when I finally caught them on foot the driver said, "We're not on YOUR schedule." I wasn't sure if I should laugh hysterically or implode.

Hey, I'm wondering if any current volunteers have a small project they are working on in their community that I can donate to for my friend's wedding present (*she's also a RPCV).

Message me on my page...thanks!
