This is my solo shit. BUT check my band members on my other projects - UNDERWATER and DEEP SCIENCE COLLECTIVE ....... my other band members are, as SLY says "the things Life flashes on every day / it all reflects in what I say" ---and I speak via the music. And the music moves through me--- creating music is an ILLUSION---- we are conduits....... so i guess this music is made by all of US participating in existence----- past and present ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I hung with other kids who played music.---------------- 1989 I got into the production of music. HipHop music got me into serious crate digging. I "discovered" old LPs all over again - Ohio Players, James Brown, Parliament/Funkadelic. Crate digging opened me to many other types of music - Bob Marley, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sonic Youth, Bauhaus, Pink Floyd, Meat Beat Manifesto. I'd rock anything with a break or cool sound to scratch.------------------------------ From that source, I eventually heard and dissected the producers who CHANGED music in more ways than most realize - and changed my perception of music; Prince Paul, DJ Red Alert, Marley Marl, Jam Master Jay, Hank Shocklee, DR DRE, BILL LASWELL, Lee Scratch Perry, George Clinton --------------------------- Then 1993/1994 I moved to (cr)Akron OH and being in between New York and Chicago/Detroit I heard the MOST legendary techno/house producers who abstracted music to new heights - Plastikman, Boo Williams, Liquid Sky (NYC), DEEE LITE, Derrick Carter, Kenny Dope, Squarepusher, Aphex Twin. Going to see them I saw my first REAL DJs - since the 90s was the age of hiphop sampling and rapping off DAT.-------------------------- --- yes---I'm a Midwest Brotha -before I played any instrument or got into production I was raiding my Mom and Dad's LPs at first - Sly and the Family Stone, the Temptations, 4 Tops, WAR, The Beatles ---- I listened to the older cats and their funk - Rick James, Tina Marie, RUN DMC, LL cool J, Prince, Michael Jackson, Tom Tom Club, George Clinton, Mary Jane Girls.---------------------------------- The early/mid 80s brought me REAL rap that got played on the radio and boom boxes in the hallways, traded via dubbed cassettes in homeroom - BDP, RAKIM, Beastie Boys, Fat Boys, Biz Markie, Jungle Brothers, De La Soul, Chubb Rock, X Clan, NWA, PUBLIC ENEMY, Stetsasonic and all the good old shit that was innovative - at the time they played good music on the radio and YO MTV RAPS had Fab 5 Freddy on weekends and Dr Dre and ED LOVER during the week. ----------------------------------------- Now we're in the new millenium. I think all music is GARBAGE - music is rotted one note. There are great individuals in music, but as a whole, I don't even listen to radio. I stopped watching MTV after they cut ED LOVER and DR DRE and cancelled YO! MTV RAPS. The same shit is being repackaged as the new shit and given some new label and packaging.----------------------------- I guess I want to deconstruct it all. Then rearrange the pieces of whatever is left of our modern music.
