Music
I'm so eclectic. My *favorite* music at the moment is definately by the Psalters. I also adore Dave Matthews, who is *truly* an awesome lyricist, he has the wild and overflowing heart of a poet.
I also like Matt Nathanson, Jack Johnson, Amos Lee, Jes Karper, Bob Dylan, U2, John Lennon, Switchfoot, Lauryn Hill, Rage Against the Machine, Bright Eyes, Leeland, The Rolling Stones, Audioslave, The Beatles, Jars of Clay, The Grateful Dead, The Doors, Bob Marley, Joseph Israel, The Fugees --------------------
Movies
These are my most recent favorites:
"Beyond Borders"
"Lord of the Rings"
"An Inconvenient Truth"
"Pursuit of Happyness"
"Blood Diamond"
"Eight Below"
"The Island"
"Juno"
Television
I avoid it as much as possible. How about I list a thought-provoking quote instead?
"The ultimate weakness of violence is that it is a descending spiral, begetting the very thing it seeks to destroy. Instead of diminishing evil, it multiplies it. Through violence you may murder the liar, but you cannot murder the lie, nor establish the truth. Through violence you may murder the hater, but you do not murder hate.
In fact, violence merely increases hate.
So it goes. Returning violence for violence multiplies violence, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that.
Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that."
-Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Books
Ahhh...my biggest vice. :) I have an utterly unquenchable thirst for reading. Especially non-fiction.
My all-time favorite book so far has been Shane Claiborne's "Irresistible Revolution". The book he co-authored with Chris Haw, "Jesus for President", comes in a very close second, though.
I'm actively reading three or four books at any given time. It's always a juggling act! Right now I am currently reading Martin Luther King Jr., Ched Myers, Leo Tolstoy, Mother Teresa, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Walter Wink
Always looking for new reads, though, so if you have any interesting suggestions, feel free to send them my way.
Heroes
My wonderfully amazing YESHUA... and everyone out there who is following His lead, with love and boldness and grace.
About me: First and foremost, I am a follower of Jesus. I try my best to live peacefully and love unconditionally.
I am a homeschooling mama to FOUR kiddos. I have a sweet little baby boy, a 5- year old daughter, a 3-year old daughter, and a 12-year old step-daughter. Yep- I've got my hands full!
I am married to an artist, so that keeps life around here interesting and beautiful. He is the most amazing guy- always supportive, loving, and nurturing, constantly challenging me to think more deeply and keep on growing further outside of the box. He is truly my soul mate.
I am a quiet, contemplative, deep person...an introvert...passionate about ALOT of things - so I spend most of my free time at home reading books and studying God's Word, listening to music, and spending time with my family.
I have no idea what the future holds for me. Some days I dream of becoming a midwife or a lactation consultant, because I truly love helping women discover that birth and motherhood are beautiful and empowering...other days I see myself becoming a published writer, because I have always had a mad love for the written word...or perhaps working with one of the many relief organizations or peacemaking teams near and dear to my heart... I would love to do something tangible to help the homeless in my community...or take part in a prison ministry to help those "forgotten" people feel loved and whole again...could easily see myself working with refugees and immigrants to find them safe, nurturing places to lay their heads at night...I also have a desire deep in my heart to work with orphaned kids, somehow, somewhere...don't know all the details yet.... God's still working on that one I think. :)
I have had a beautiful journey in this life so far, and am just trying my best to take it one step at a time. Not rushing or impatiently pushing ahead of where God wants me. He's leading the way, and I am completely trusting in him to get me there.
Right now, I am wholeheartedly enjoying this season of my life...guiding and nurturing my children and supporting my awesome husband.
Who I'd like to meet: Always interested in meeting fellow peacemakers...lovers...ragamuffins...ordinary radicals...struggling sinners... & stumbling saints
We are great! And Zoë is wonderful!! I am sad to hear you are further away but we do visit that way fairly often too. I would love to get together just let us know when you come this way and I will do the same when we go to Jefferson.
I am glad it is making easier on everyone though! Good *move*!
We definitely will! Good luck on the move and keep in touch! We're getting so close to starting up the revolution so hopefully we'll have it up and going on your next Hendersonville visit.
We are hoping to secure a meeting place this week in Sylva, NC. Hopefully that will be set up real soon that way you can maybe come a few times. Boone, man that is way far away. Why the move? We'll let you know what's up.
Forgive me, please, dear. I haven't had much time between school, work, playing shows, and driving to all these places from my ridiculously removed house out in the boonies. Thankfully, Yah has provided for me a place deep in the city for an extremely reasonable price; within bicycling distance from most of what I need. Hopefully that will open up some time for some new study blogs, new songs recorded and posted, and fellowship with online Israelites.
I pray everything is well with you and you keep me posted on happenings in your world! Many blessings, Sister Israel.
This is all brand new for us and we currently do not have a set meeting place and we probably won't until next year. We are currently in the prayer process of it all, but we have the support of Revolution Atlanta's pastor, Stu Damron. We are very excited about starting this new ministry where it is greatly needed and we look forward to being involved with you in the future!
Expect to hear more about Revolution WNC in early January as we will be exploring locations to hold our meetings!
hi there :) i saw you on the revolution board and realized i didn't get a chance to wish U and ur family a Happy Thanksgiving - i hope it was awesome!!
p.s. the type of people i spoke of in my comment to our church, yeah - ur one of them :)
Normally I dont do the parenting books but I heard about this through a church program and thought that I could use it. It is just what I need to get rid of the guilt when it comes to doing what I have to do to make my kids functioning memebers of society even if it means watching them make mistakes. Im trying to do what I can while Tommy is gone to better myself and put myself in a better place so I can be whole when he gets back. I still really havent bounced back after I had Kara I think part of it is these back to back deployments and the other part is just that I'm older and dont see the world the same. Anyway Im rambling.....How are all of you?
I saw your mood. I am currently reading Jane Eyre. Very good book if you haven't read it. I'm mostly listening to the audio file i have of it, that i got from http://librivox.org/ Its the best way to listen to the classics. :)
