   Peaceful Vocations's Blurbs
About me:
OUR MISSION IS:

To bring together a network of organizations and individuals to counteract the growing intrusion of the military in the lives of young people in the North Texas area

To raise awareness of and mobilize against the aggressive and deceptive recruiting tactics of the military

To provide information and resources to the North Texas community about non-military vocational and educational alternatives

---------------------------

Founded out of the grassroots, non-hierarchical anti-war coalition that came together to produce the 2 Years 2 Long peace demonstration in March 2005, Peaceful Vocations has grown into an effective vehicle through which many students continue to learn the facts about military enlistment, war, and the many alternatives to the G.I. life.

We are an all-volunteer, consensus-based collective made up of service industry employees teachers, artists, nurses, attorneys, and union organizers.

Peaceful Vocations is one of hundreds of organizations working across the nation to counter the military’s presence in public schools. We provide meaningful and necessary information about vocational and higher educational alternatives to military recruitment.

We reach students in Fort Worth public schools by tabling during lunch hours, making classroom presentations, hanging hallway posters, and placing our literature in the counselors’ offices. We provide all of these services at no cost to students.

Your donations will go towards the ongoing need for outreach and informational materials (pamphlets, flyers, posters, etc).

Who I'd like to meet:
War Resisters, Iraq War detractors, Conscientious Objectors, Anti-Militarism Activists.

And those who do---but need more information to make better informed decisions.

Don't Attack Iran!

The lead-up to war in Iran is well underway and House Resolution 362, currently being considered is the first step. The resolution would authorize the blockade of Iran and prevent Iranian diplomats from traveling outside of the country.  A peaceful resolution to conflict can not be found if leaders can not speak to each other.
 Make your voice heard this Friday during rush hour at the north east corner of Central and Meadow in Dallas [GET MAP].  Bring your signs, water and friends.  Tell our elected officials to vote NO on HR 362 and NO to attacking Iran.

The Exxon Enough! coalition, comprised of the Dallas Peace Center, Consumers for Peace, CLEAN (Citizens League for Environmental Action Now) and many concerned individuals, are saying
• Enough of your pollution that harms the health of people living near your refineries and plants on the Texas Gulf Coast;
• Enough of your profiteering from the Iraq War, while people die, the wounded and displaced are neglected, and you engage our troops in your attempt to grab huge Iraqi oil reserves;
• Enough of your excess, windfall war profits while we pay outrageous prices for gas prices and watch economies around the world crumbling;
• Enough of the denial that burning petroleum products fuels global warming.

We've now had 5 years of lies about 9/11, WMD's, and freedom. The real reasons were oil, profiteering, and fascism. Not just Bush, but the news media, most of congress, and all who remain silent. And now they'll use fear to quash dissent. It's nothing new -- it's been going on for ages. War, poverty, ecocide, arrogant bullying --they're all from greed and fear, which come from ignorance. ♥ But it's not too late -- we can still learn to make peace. Talk with people. Love, Eric
