A team of preternaturally intelligent cephalopods.
Influences
Jaunty hats, a history of rats. Home cooking, sexy looking. Cookie crumbles, bee bumbles. Teeth gnashes, market crashes. Sea creatures, double features, setting fire to the preachers. Ranters, recanters, buttered toast and hoary hosts. Fin Fang Foom and Dr. Doom. Rhyming random words and poems that don't rhyme. Rocks we found on the beach. Hugs. Kisses. Russian folk tales. Friends. Enemies. Lovers. Fighters. Getting it on. Getting on with it. Letting go. Holding on. Opposites. Likes. People we bitch about and fight with the most because we love them.
Oh, and all these cool bands too.
Sounds Like
Hilarious, godawful, beautiful noises coming from a basement.
We are a group of people from Peace River, Alberta who are interested in bringing bands up here for shows. This is not just an exclusive club for "Punks"(whatever your definition of that is). While we recognize that punk is not just a fashion sense or a musical genre, but also a culture of resistance, and in some ways, an ethos to live your life by, we are not exclusionary. This group is for both Punks and FANS of punk and its sister genres(Hardcore, Post-Hardcore, Grindcore, Indie Rock, Power Violence, Folk Punk, Old-School Emo and Screamo, etc....) who live, have lived, or are going to live in the Peace Country to come together and organize events and shows, as well as make connections personally.
We are not adverse to having bands of any genre play at our shows as long as they are familiar with and accept what we believe, and try to put into practice when we put on these shows: We believe that bands, audiences, and venue workers are all equal and should be treated as such. We are anti-racist, anti-sexist and anti-homophobia, and we believe in DIY ethic, but we are anti-censorship and welcome CONSTRUCTIVE criticism of said ethic. We believe bands should get paid, but we also believe that the audience should be able to attend shows, regardless of their economic status, which is why we try to keep admission prices as low as possible. We also believe in strengthening the community which we live in by forging friendships and relationships with the people around us, as well as putting on community-based, community run events.
This is not something we do as a day job. We all work jobs for a living. We don't get paid for putting these shows on. We use the money from these shows to pay for venues, keep bands' gas tanks and bellies full, and make these events as fun as possible. We appreciate donations, but we appreciate volunteers and show goers even more!
If you are in a band that would like to come play a show in Peace River or the surrounding area, or are interested in helping us out by volunteering, please contact us, either at this myspace or through the email peaceriverpunx@gmail.com.
If you see one of us on the street, give us some hugs and maybe a friendly slap on the bottom for encouragement! Or stop and have a conversation with us Like we said, we like that.
haha thanks man, we definitely will. i came up there when i was playing with fifth offence and havent stopped bragging about how awesome your shows are!
I'd love to for sure. Im in school until 18th than I am back to work in the new year. I have to work for a good month or two and get some stuff sorted out, so end of Feb and into Mar I will be set. Should be good shit, Get A/R to come up to, that would be a hell of a good time.
I've been dreaming of the Peace River Hunks every single night since that faithful evening at the friendship center. I hope to make it to Peace River one day so I can once again bask in your glory.
I have no clue when we will be making our way up there. We are mostly all busy with school and shit. and we probs are going to record the rest of our shit sometime soon.
