The theme of the show is inspired by the classic Nas Illmatic-era lyric ‘Sleep is the Cousin of Death’ and the canvasses that each artist has to work with are two old vinyl LP’s.

So what is Peak Street Magazine all about then?
Well forgive the clichéd grand vision statement, but… we are more then just a collection of press release photos, lame questions and a reason to graft free shit from advertisers. This is intelligent hip hop journalism which fuses the various elements into one cohesive whole that looks fucking dope and begs to be collected. Did we mention it was FREE and sent out across Australia by Shogun Distribution? Probably should have, that shit is important...
Peak Street Magazine won’t claim to be THE singular authority, but we will provide a unique insight into authentic hip hop culture from across the globe. In these pages you will stumble across respected artists who the corporate media couldn’t give a shit about. Peak Street won’t be asking people to blindly follow its lead though; the magazine is more about building a true community and utilising the passion and talent of the people who read it. Through these pages we want you, our readers, to have an outlet. Whether you’re skilled at design, interviewing, illustration, photography or a jaded oldskool bastard that wants to vent on political issues from a uniquely hip hop perspective; the magazine you now hold will provide you an opportunity to get seen and be heard. You want to contribute? Hit us up.
Along with this we endeavour to actively encourage and assist young up and coming artists to further hone their craft, especially those who call Australia home. As issues roll out, underexposed and progressive hip hop music will be uncovered. Various street art movements and personalities will be explored with fresh art commissioned. B-Boys and B-Girls will receive the recognition that too many publications constantly fail to provide. Our competitions will be epic and will provide exposure to talented underground cats to make some moves. (MC’s and producers better keep an ear out for our ‘Old Dogs/ New Kids’ comp real soon).
