I like a little bit of everything - from Sweet Honey and the Rock to the Orb. The people I have seen in concert the most are the Indigo Girls, Tom Petty, the Beastie Boys and Radiohead - in that order. I am inspired by the different talents involved in making music so it is hard for me to pinpoint specific influences. Female singer/songwriters like Tracy Chapman, Natalie Merchant, Indigo Girls, Joan Osborne, Edie Brickell, Sarah McLaughlin, Brandi Carlile, Alanis Morissette, Suzanne Vega, Aimee Mann, Shelby Lynne, and Bonnie Raitt have probably influenced me the most.

Growing up female in the South, I learned that the Bible, sweet tea and charm were the secrets to success and long-term happiness. Much to my mother’s dismay, my youthful desire to have a voice all of my own was often at odds with her southern sensibility. I struggled with how to reconcile how I felt with how I knew I was supposed to act. Finally, I picked-up a guitar and stopped worrying about it.
Most of my songs are a reflection of this internal struggle. I write songs on my little blue guitar about the many people I have known and those I fantasize about meeting. Some are sweet while others vulgar, but they all share the urge to break free from obligation and expectation. Each one knows that there is something bigger than his/her current state of existence.
