Question 1 - How did this project get started and where did the name come from?
answer 1 - Chezka: i was in the process of booking a show for a few bands and i needed one more band to complete the bill. I deceided to start my own project for this bill. I had a idea of what sound i wanted and put a few craigslist lists ads out and began the formation process. We needed a name for the project so i thought i would use Pedestre. I had been thumbing through a Spanish dictionary and liked the way the Pedestre sounded and its meaning. The english translation is simply Pedestrian or on foot.
Question 2 - What kind of band were you looking to put together?
answer 2 - Chezka: I wanted to put something together that would pull a bit from all of my influences over the years. I really can't describe what kind of band other than wanting to dabble a bit with a 60's girl group/ latin sound.
Question 3- what are some of your influences?
Answer 3- Chezka: I have always been a sucker for the Flemenco guitar and Latin rhythms and trumpets. It's somehow in my blood. I love the sound and production of Motown and 60's girls groups/french pop. Those songs always put me in a good mood. 80's british pop/rock, very nostalgic.
Question 4- What are your ultimate plans for this project?
Answer 4- Chezka: good question! i am very ambitious and as i was recruiting the new members of Pedestre, i told them first off, welcome to the group and we already have shows booked and had to accelerate things rather quickly. So with a lack of time to write some songs we would all be proud of, we deceided to cover some songs in our set. This would allow us to see where we were all at musically and how we would fit together. We have 3 shows under our belt and each was a bit different.
Question 5- When do we get to hear new original Material?
Answer 5- Chezka: We are working on it as we speak. I am hoping to record a single sometime in July. One of my goals is to co-write a soccer anthem. I am also considering doing a few songs in Spanish. One song that we have been tinkering with is Called 'Exit Smiling' (Written by Brian Young and The Promise 1994) my old band.
Question 6 - What songs have you covered from your previous show?
Answer 6- Chezka: We have been all over the map with our covers. The First song we played together was 'Broken Dreams' from Basement Jaxx. We played 'We Don't belong' from Sylvan and lastly we Covered 'work is a four letter word' from Cilla Black/The Smiths. I will be posting videos of these songs soon for anyone interested.
Ciao,
Chezka
