    Peggy Hogan grew up in Victoria, British Columbia where she began studying classical piano at the age of five. She embarked on a path of disciplined practice and tense recitals for the next ten years, at which point she received a certificate of program completion from the Royal Conservatory of Music and stumbled into the music of the 60's, embracing the whole gamut of the decade, from The Beatles and Bob Dylan to Sly & the Family Stone and Aretha Franklin. The sounds of folk, rock and roll and soul music combined with Peggy's precocious musical knowledge spurred a feverish period of songwriting. Melodies and language collided providing Peggy an exciting and inexhaustible platform for creative expression. In 2004 she recorded and self-released her first album, Blue Red Read You. Meanwhile, she found a home in the spotlight in Victoria's theatres performing in various plays and musical theatre productions, and a home on the pages of Canada's literary journals, finding her work published in the likes of The Malahat Review and The Claremont Review, and winning various poetry prizes, including the 2006 "Petra Kenney Poetry Prize for Young Writers" and the 2007 "Poetic Licence" Contest created by The League of Canadian Poets. Peggy's growing involvement in musical theatre sparked a love of performing, the discovery of her voice and what would come to be an inextricable bond with jazz music. She was lucky enough to enjoy the tutelage of Louise Rose, Hugh Fraser and Misha Piatigorsky before leaving Victoria to begin her Specialization in Jazz Studies at Montreal's Concordia University. Having completed her BFA in Jazz Studies and English Literature in 2011, Peggy continues to actively perform as a singer and actor, compose and song write, and teach voice in Montreal. She is currently working closely with her recording engineer, Tyler Fitzmaurice, on her first studio album, to be released in spring 2012.
