Influences
Each member brings their own tastes and experiences to the music but all share a fondness for the finest in 60's 70's 80's and 90's Pop, Rock, Folk & Psych, Madchester, Shoegaze and everything else that has hit our ears and eyes and stuck.
Converging upon San Francisco during various times, from places as far away as Japan, Texas and Detroit, the members of Peloton would all eventually meet and not think of playing music together for quite a while.
Brian Jackson moved to San Francisco in the fall of 1999, expecting to be able to form a band quickly from what he had heard and naively assumed was a thriving live music scene. Quickly disappointed, he'd have to be content writing his own brand of melodic songs, laced with bitter-sweet lyrics, in a room in the Upper Haight, playing only to his audience of pedestrians on the street below. January 2007, he decided to take his own journey and left the band.
Miyako Ueki was trained classical piano as a child, but hadn't bothered since. She joined SF band 'Tigerbeat' as a keyboardist in 2001 - 2003. In Spring of 2003, Miyako and Brian began working on music together. Miyako soon discovered she possessed a natural ability to compose beautiful, complex songs. Together, they began crafting a sound that interwove acoustic and fuzz-washed guitars with alluring piano melodies and sonic organs. Juxtaposing it all with hypnotic ryhthms and heartfelt lyrics in both English and Japanese, they knew they had something unique and potent.
After demoing four songs at home they decided to form a band. A somewhat frustrating year of playing with various people would pass and they found themselves still a duo and a drum machine, but were unrelenting in their determination to make it come together.
Brian had a multi-instrumentalist childhood friend, Dustin Robinson, who had moved to San Francisco in September of 2001. They decided to ask him to fill in on drums at rehearsals. Everything went well so he stuck around providing the back-beat, background vocals and contributing other instruments during recording sessions.
William Taylor had known the other three almost since they had first moved to town. He had played music in school, but hadn't given it much consideration since. He had however always remained an avid listener of the same indie, pop, shoegaze and rock bands that the other members had a taste for. It was only on a dare that he came to play with the others for the first time.
They began rehearsing religiously several times a week until they were ready to record their first EP. They entered Tiny Telephone Studios in February 2005 for the first time. The self-titled six song EP was recorded over seven days between February and September.
A private party at the historic Fillmore West was Peloton's first show; surely a good sign of things to come. It was then that they were joined by friend, musician and sound engineer, David Cuetter on guitar and keyboards. In February of '07, Peloton saw the departure of Brian Jackson to pursue other musical endeavors. While Brian had been one of the key songwriters, the band was determined to carry on, drawing upon the songwriting skills of the other members and focused on crafting music as a band as well.
Since then they've been playing venues in and around San Francisco and receiving a very warm response.
Hey! They played "Blue Field" after the show at the Rickshaw last night. That was cool hearing it like that. Play sooner than July 18, would you? I miss you guys, even though I did see David on Monday. I hope you're all doing well!
Hey guys, I saw you at the Elbo Room quite some time ago, but I got your album and listen to it frequently...The song "Out Of Mind" just came up on the ol' playlist and I thought, Peloton should be on fuzz.com. The site is both local and international, I think you could really benefit from it. Check it out. FUZZ.COM
