About me:
King Arthur, the Round Table, Excalibur, Lancelot and Guinevere, Merlin, and the Quest for the Holy Grail - all names that conjure up powerful images, stories and ideas.

For some, the Arthurian legends are pure fantasy: fun, a bit of escapism, but ultimately untrue.

For others, they represent embellishments of what originally may have been a core of historical fact: the existence of a real figure in the period after the Romans left Britain, during what are sometimes called the Dark Ages.

For yet others, the fantasy or the facts are not important: what matters is what the stories signify.

Whatever your point of view, there is a publication which explores all aspects of what was once called the Matter of Britain. Pendragon is the Journal of the Pendragon Society, which devotes itself to Arthurian Studies in three main areas:
~ history and archaeology
~ legend and folklore
~ literature, the arts and popular culture.

Founded in 1959, the Society was associated with the archaeological excavations of South Cadbury hillfort in Somerset (which though not Camelot was occupied in the Dark Ages), and with a long-running dig at a Dark Age church site in the Gower Peninsula, Wales. It has hosted Round Tables at Arthurian sites like Winchester and Caerleon, and includes in its world-wide membership authors, artists, academics, and enthusiastic amateurs of the Arthurian theme.

Greetings - cool site, cool subject.

I grew up in Amesbury, Wiltshire. Amesbury's got an amazing building - the Abbey - where Guinevere is said to have fled to after Arthur died. Local legend has it, she became a nun and stayed till she died.

Thanks for Greatings!
Have a Wonderful Summertime!
I'm so glad to be Friend of You All, dividing common love and histotical, archeological and cultural interests in a part of traditions common in both our countries. You know that here in Italy we have a real "Excalibur"in the rock and churchs and sites relative to Galahad and other Knights.
I start interesting since 1952, from the film "Knights of The Round Table", with Robert Taylor, Ava Gardner and Mel Ferrer.
I was a child, and "The Round Table" was the first theme of my first games.
At 15 years I was involved with The Shadows musical group, and one of my best performing top by Me was the song "The War Lord", from the Film with Charlton Heston. This denote my eternal love for traditions of old Europe.
God Bless You,
Bruno de Vita,
Roma

As the walls of Camelot continue to
decay, new life springs from it's
inevitable demise...My spirit
continues to walk the empty halls
that once held the grandeur of
the Knights of the Round Table...
I shall not rest until fate or
destiny opens the mists that once
held Avalon.
