"Accessible, spangly songs dealing with everyday
matters such as obsession, betrayal and mental
illness...."
"..sticky hooks, quirky arrangements and choruses that insist on taking up residence (you’ll be singing these songs in the shower)..like the best pop..governments definitely won’t fall, but sun-drenched drives in the country, with the windows down, will be enhanced"
- Leicester Bangs
"Highly tuneful and charming, with just the right air of quirkiness to rank it as one of the better nostalgically-flavoured records of recent times"
- Leonard's Lair
"A cool, engaging release – it has a hypnotic quality that pulls you in. Milligan is not playing it safe with his pop inspirations with his healthy love of early Squeeze, Nick Lowe and Martin Newell, it’s a distinctively British take on pop craftmenship but it works extremely well.. "
- Not Lame
"Very catchy, very charming..The rootsy "..Grandma's" is a Kinks & Nick Lowe-inspired sing-along! The chirpy and jangly "She Smells" is another "Argybargy" influenced song! The vocal interplay throughout recalls the Difford/Tillbrook dynamic of Squeeze. EXCELLENT!!!"
- Kool Kat Musik
...very English nostalgic music hall pop...a compelling listen...reminds me of Andy Partridge...the best fun here is pub anthem "Goin' Back To Grandma's" with the hummable chorus and foot stompin' beat...a lot of subtle shifts in mood and genre...charming pop that will sit well with ye merry anglophile power pop fans

“like skimming across a pretty little pond on a sunny day in an old fashioned rowing boat, dangling your fingers in the water and unexpectedly having one of them bitten off by something just below the surface”
Milligan played in Reno & Rome (an early incarnation of NME favourites Animals That Swim) and in the 90s was one third of criminally under-exposed Pomp/Industrial nearly-men "Introversion".
He's been in arco since its inception, co-producing and playing on their three albums (including a US-only rarities compilation), which are available on labels based in the UK, US and Korea.
Penguin Party is an outlet for Milligan's songs which don't fit arco's gorgeous introspective sound.
I edited my profile with Thomas Myspace Editor V4.4 (www.strikefile.com/myspace)
Hey there, it's the Nationwide Mercury Prize team here, we are checking out tracks, videos, albums, and live dates out on Myspace. Each week we post our top tips in our blog but we are really keen to hear what bands you think are cool right now and who we should be looking out for. Drop us a comment and let us know!
"Struggles & Lulls", the brand new album from Joan Coffey, is available now on ITunes
'a voice that can enchant. Coffey's vocal chords deliver liquid gold with a divine Irish lilt.' FATEA Records 'charming and honest'. Time Out 'Joan's music exudes a warmth, humility and truth that is rare to find in singer-songwriters these days'. Thea Gilmore
Hi and thank you very much for your kind words. Which Moog synthesizer do you use on "Somebody Else's Turn"? We like this track alot. Kind regards from Hamburg, THE SWEEPS. PS: You've got mail(:
it's late and I don't wanna listen to the songs with the headphones.. tomorrow I'll come back here for the penguin party :) I'm happy to know about this side project!! does still exist dreamy records? I only have "coming to terms" from arco and I'd like to buy the other cds (no mp3s)... Can you help me Dave?
hi PP, how comes you know we like martin newell? I read about his band The cleaners from venus, the book "lost inmusic". then i heard some music, and some newell songs, too. it..s great. rock! matze/sushimob
Thank you for finding me. Good songs! My favorites are "Someone Else's Turn" "Goin' Back To Grandma's" "I'm Ready For My Closeup, MrDemille ". And voice and singing are also attractive!
I am very happy to hear the great news. What a pleasant surprise! So when are you coming? Are you coming this summer? That is awesome. I always think like this but the world is a very interesting place. Things that I though I can never get come to me in moments so easily. Very easily.
I hope I can see your performance.
The “penguin party” has different feeling from the “arco.” It is interesting that it shows many colors.
Thank you for showing your interests in me. Have a great May. I alway cheer up
Hi, Dave! Tonight I was listening to your album and felt like coming here to say hello. In particular I really loved Before I Go Away. Hope everything is fine with you at the moment :)
You were reading my mind Dave. I'd love to send some tracks your way to add some stuff on. Salim and Rip Rowan are producing, along with myself. You'd be a welcome addition. I want to get Dare involved too but haven't spoken to him about it yet. Have ordered my copy of the CD. Can't wait to get it! Thanks Dave. Paul
