Think about The Oldham Tinkers, 5 Penny Piece, Mike Harding, Bernard Wrigley & His Worship and the Pig.

   About PENNY BLACK
Penny Black combines the talents of Lancashire "lads" - John Bond (Vocals, Guitar) and Pete Skinner (Vocals, 5 String electric and Acoustic Banjo, Guitar, Mandolin and everything Else!) supplemented on occasions by one or more of their musical friends or family.

Having spent many years honing their musical abilities (they've been honed so much they're just about worn away!) they decided to form a fun group for their own amazement! playing Lancashire songs and dialect poems, comic (some might say risque) songs plus various serious and not so serious instrumentals, the most important aspect of the group had to be to enjoy what they were doing and to spread this enjoyment to their audiences and raise some money for charity - this they have succeeded in doing in fact a local report on one of their "gigs" stated "when Penny Black had finished their set, there wasn't a dry seat in the house!"

The lads, like the Penny Black, are getting on a bit (and think they're worth a bob or two) and have played at clubs pubs and festivals in various groups and solo since the 60's, John was a long time member of the madcap group Distressed Gentlefolk, Pete has played with several "line-ups" and enjoys various styles of music ranging from Sea Shanties to Rock and Roll.

Some people might say that philately will get you no where but this group of rare old oddities is definitely a "First Class Collection"

Penny Black have CDs available (£12.00 including P+P and insurance) and are available for; Festivals, Concerts, Folk Clubs, Private Parties, Clubs, Pubs, etc (see ARC Collection details below)

Together we can help - whatever little we can do on our own.

Hi back you gorgeous person you. once again you caught me with the eyes shut. I loved wednesday at the clarence. you always make me feel like a real performer and like an old friend. it was a lovely venue and the audience were class! I think you have some rare singers down there in blackpool. I was gutted to have to go so early and if there is ever a next time Ian says we will get a hotel so we can stay and enjoy the whole night. it was lovely to see Anne and Carol. and please say thank you to everyone for making it such fun. I really mean it Pete you really are a brilliant bunch. The clarence was my first ever folk night and I think I have found the music I truly want to play. look out folk clubs here I come.

Smashing night at the Clarence - good on yers for organising it all. You do a sterling job (LOL) raising funds with fun and entertainment.

It was great to hear Gwen, Steve and your good selves again... what a lovely bunch of residents and audience too! It was quite something to hear them singing along in all the right places throughout our set.

We look forward to getting together again.
