2009 has been a big year for Penny Coco, completing her EP which has been released on Itunes. Also being a featured artist on two compilation albums “Sounds Like Café” volumes 19 and 20
Currently she is writing and heading back into studio to record her next release. Penny Coco is a Rock Chick with a touch of difference, who loves to play guitar and sing.
To take a step back in time, at the early age of 12 Penny was writing her own songs. As time progressed she joined cover bands and performed thru out Sydney in clubs and pubs. It was hard work but this hand’s on female wouldn’t have it any other way.
Penny was introduced to a diverse range of music thru her father who is a rockin guitarist. Her influences are anywhere from the 60’s and 70’s like the legendary Jimi Hendrix, Ella Fitzgerald, Janis Joplin, The Eagles, and Fleetwood Mac. Nowadays, her influences in contemporary music are rather eclectic ranging from rock, acoustic, dance, hip hop and alternative styles with artists such as Damien Rice, Mary Gauthier, Sheryl Crow, India Arie, Faith Evans, Hole and the Foo Fighter’s just to name a few !!!
As time moved on, Penny made the decision to focus on performing and writing her own songs, to any audience that would listen. Thru this she met many talented and amazing people, one of those being Syd Green who produced her EP.
Growing up in the western suburbs of Sydney, Penny has drawn on these surroundings and its people to inspire her song writing. Lyrically, her song’s are reflective of her close relationships and friendships and are imbued with a pinch of sadness yet hope and positively.
Penny’s songs are simple, rockin, honest, and from the heart.
