Pete Kliskey-Song Writer, Vocals and Guitar,
Mike Kliskey-Bass and Backing Vocals
Jimmy Jewell-Drums and Backing Vocals
Influences
The Clash, George Orwell, The Ramones, JD Salinger and Ray Mears. Also a drunken giant Irishman I saw once repeatedly shouting 'I Am The Man Called Horse' as he was thrown out of a pub in Huddersfield in the early 1980s.
The Surgeons were formed in 1980, by Pete kliskey, who was a member of Penzance's first punk band, The Cramp in 1977 (see Humphry Davy 1977 Blog Review). Having not played since 1984 we were coaxed out of retirement by Mike Sagar Fenton to appear at The Golowan Festival's 30 years of punk celebration event at The Acorn, Penzance on the 20th of June 2007, supporting The Eyelids. We were then asked to support The Damned at Falmouth Pavilions in August 2007. Since then we have played regularly, including bizarrely supporting both Stiff Little Fingers in 2008 and Sham 69 in 2009. We have 2 free CDs available, containing 24 self penned tracks. We would recommend anyone reading this to spend the evening watching James Stewart in Harvey.
Review Of Damned Gig 17/08/07
By Cornish Live Gig Review - www.cornishlivegigreview.com
From Penzance they came, from the ashes of the town..s first punk band (The Cramp), from Russia with lo... (hang on, that..s not right). Ahh yes, The Surgeons - led by that ex-Cramp (Penzance version), Pete Kliskey on guitar and vocals have been around since 1980. Although officially sleeping since 1984 due to mental illness and errands that needed running, the band did reform recently for a punk festival in June and obviously enjoyed themselves enough to take on a few more dates including tonight.
With drumming from the unlikely named Jimmy Jewell and his brother Mike Kliskey on the bass, Pete led the band through a powerful and professional set of punk material that would easily stand up against anything by the The Clash/Pistols.
Claiming to be influenced easily, but more specifically by Joe Strummer, George Orwell and Ray Mears shows the mature sense of humour that we..re dealing with when it comes to The Surgeons, but when it comes to the music, you can bet they mean it maaan!
With the state of the NHS these days, the need to see The Surgeons asap is more important than ever before!

REVIEW OF STIFF LITTLE FINGERS SUPPORT GIG 22/08/2008
AT FALMOUTH PAVILIONS
BY CORNISH LIVE GIG REVIEW
THE SURGEONS
Pete Kliskey, Mike Kliskey and Jimmy Jewell, collectively ..The Surgeons.., were first on tonight..s bill but had no need to fear playing to the legendary ..one man and a dog.. audience as the place became filled almost the moment the first chord of opening number ..Denaban Sun.. rang out.
The last time I saw the band was also at The Pavilions a year ago supporting The Damned on The Surgeons second comeback gig and I..ve gotta say they..ve tightened up their performance until its a rigid (digit?) and taught experience. The audience sensed a worthy band and came streaming in to witness the local heroes pulling out the stops as they visibly swelled with pride before their own heroes backdrop and stage equipment.
Twelve anthems of punk heritage from as far back as 1977 were sprayed out at the crowd of revellers with such titles as ..Cut The Cackle.. and ..Radio 1 Conspiracy.., "...written way back, when radio was really bad" (!)
It seemed a short set, but the band clearly wanted to see Stiff Little Fingers and so were keen to get the job done to join the crowd for the headliners appearance. The Surgeons have brought life back to their own career with performances like this and with these practitioners, you can be sure local punk rock is in safe hands.
Fuck BUPA - lets go public!

Sounds good Pete, but remember, it's the taking part that counts?
Been pretty much off line for 3 weeks, hence the silence. It's been frustrating and liberating in equal parts. Actually picked up a book to read - old school entertainment.
