People of Santiago play dark pop music. There are 5 of them.
They are inspired by, but don’t sound like (in no particular order) My Bloody Valentine, The Jesus & Mary Chain, Interpol, The Cure, The Smiths, Magazine, The Chameleons, The National, TV on the Radio, Pixies, LOW, Galaxie 500, Kramer, Nirvana, Radiohead, Autechre, Anton Corbijn, The Walkmen, The Twilight Sad, Midlake, Depeche Mode, Explosions in the Sky, Spinal Tap, Chris Cunningham, Type2Error, a pretentious list of authors and classic literature, endless lists of movies, films and documentaries, especially The Warriors and the BBC series ‘Planet Earth’ (in particular the underwater episodes, there’s some strange things down there), McLusky, Public Enemy, NWA, Blur, Mudhoney, Oasis’ first album, Flaming Lips, Mercury Rev, Spacemen 3, Led Zeppelin, Eminem, Ride, Dinosaur Jr, Pavement, Modest Mouse, The Shins, Broken Social Scene, Klaxons, Placebo, Calla, Stellastarr, Chapterhouse, Swervedriver, Tom Waits, David Bowie, Joy Division, Bloc Party, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Hope of the States, A Silver Mt Zion, CSS, Japan (the country, not the band), wasabe sauce, The Thermals, Idlewild, Korg Electribe MX, Fender Jaguars, Big Vox AC-30 amplifiers, Fender Deluxe amplifiers, We Are Scientists, We are Not Scientologists, The Little Ones, Cold War Kids, not forgetting Sonic Youth, Volcano!, Sigur Ros, Decemberists, Delgados, British Sea Power, Death Cab, Led Zep, Echo and the Bunnymen, Film School, House of Love, iLiKETRAiNS, Kraftwerk, Mew, Morrissey, Peace Burial at Sea, The Postal Service (both the band and the actual service), Secret Machines, Ryan Adams (mostly Whiskeytown), Slowdive, This Aint Vegas, YCNI:M. Etc.. Etc...
If People of Santiago sounded like all of these combined, they would inevitably sound terrible.
They are not inspired by Eric Clapton, Dire Straits, Joe Satriani, Guns N Roses. Anyone like that.
After listening to People of Santiago, go hunt out the bands and stuff above. You’ll have a great time. We cannot, however, be responsible for any Clapton-related mishaps or misadventures.
People of Newcastle! What are you all doing on May 12th? Washing your cars…reading a book…stroking a leopard…These are all lovely things. But why not come and see us play live at The Cluny?…The Leopard will still be there when you get back – Fact!!! www.ticketweb.co.uk

"Produced by ¡Forward, Russia!'s Tom Woodhead, debut single A Fire Born In Dallas (released on the Pay For The Piano imprint) finds post-hardcore and prog influences welded together to create a sound that is both vulnerable and self-assured. Admittedly, the usual influences of Fugazi and At The Drive-In are worn pretty obviously, but the band are far more than mere copyists.
Indeed, at their single launch they offered an intense and impassioned performance, with snare cracks and upstrokes reverberating around the venue.
Ever Since The Lake Caught Fire, it would seem, have more than enough firepower in their sonic arsenal to kick some of the music world's feted young pretenders into touch. " The Metro
