The Peoples' Friend were psychoactive through the late nineties and early noughties. London based, plangent, splinetic and as aware as the twilight can be, we got to play a lot of great gigs to a lot of great people in a lot of great venues and for that we'll always be shivering. The tunes were written by Steffan Kaye and the lyrics by Jamie Kelsey with key cosmic energy from the original core members: Jason manaray Starkey on the skins, Kirsty dragon Newton on bass and vocals and Lewis dark emperor Perry on the electric guitar. Over the five years of the band, we had the good fortune to record an EP with Tim Smith of Cardiacs producing and an album at the very scenic and splendid Sawmills with Dave Chelsea producing. Steffan now lives in Delhi, gigging and recording with the fabulous Emperor Minge, (Check them and be delighted on myspace/facebook/youtube) Jamie lives in London, writes for various projects under various names as well as keeping in touch with Steff and dropping lyrics for the new tunes from the Emperor Minge. ++++++++++++++++++++++ The story went like this... Like baying barefaced nippers from the fields we came, shivering and cold, with these wet fingers dazzling and words shedding their skins at the same time. The sounds that came out said things without mention but tune. So there was pleasure in us all to be playing rings through themselves, singing holes in the spaces in between, making the air crack at a hundred gigs. All of us curling and unfurling at the same time over and over and over, fluttering the dusts up like plain heart gizzards should. Visceral and disjuncted. Flame hearted and lard. A batterment of souls to the end ++++++++++++++++++
