Pepe Belmonte is an acoustic folk-blues singer/ songwriter currently residing in London. He is known for playing personal arrangements of traditional blues songs including renditions of old favourites such as 'Ragged and Dirty', 'John Henry' and 'Make Me Down A Pallet'. Having grown up in rural south west Ireland, its not surprising to find a taste of Irish folk music in his set too.
As much as these old blues and folk songs have inspired him, Pepe is also a sensitive songwriter with a formidable back catalogue. He has a strong sense of imagery, catchy melodies and a grand grasp of rhythm and rhyme. His bluesy guitar style and distinctive vocal and harmonica work have led him to collaborate with a number of musicians, artistic groups and bands. Over the years he has appeared on stage with the likes of Pete Roe and Sam Beer, supported REVERE at The Union Chapel, been a member of rock n' roll band 'The Big Red' and was a seminal influence with the blues-folk acoustic trio 'Havana Pepper'. Formed in 2007 with South African folkster/ lyricist Vana and Robin 'Big Bear' Mukherjee, their prolific year together saw 'Havana Pepper' fequent prominent venues such as The Half Moon, The Green Note and Cecil Sharpe House. They toured the UK, visted Wales and South West Cork, played some festivals (The Secret Garden/ Tavistock Festival/ Goc Stock), supported Arno Castens and DORP at The Clapham Grand and released a self-recorded, limited edition 9 song album. Pepe has also appeared supporting country songstress Emily Barker and The Red Clay Halo.
Over the last year (2008) Pepe has focused on both his solo performance and the ongoing project BeatRoot Redez-Vous, a musical collaboration born from the idea of bringing the Arts and music together. He was a founding member of the collective which was established in 2006. Beatroot Rendez-Vous creates an inspiring live experience to a wide audience while providing an exciting and worthy backdrop for musicians, poets and artists.
Pepe is currently working on the completion of his debut album and regularily tours the UK promoting his 'home-made' 6 song analogue EP: '4-Track Analogue Recordings'.
