Paul Reeves aka John Graham “Furor Movie”'s Blurbs
About me:
I've worked as an artist/animator in the video games industry for about 15 years, and have moved around a few different companies in that time. I've written a lot of tutorials for video gaming, model making, texturing, animating etc. I'm going to have a good batch of similar tutorials on my own site.
I started getting into acting when I was about 19. I've managed to gradually work my way from local theatre groups to small parts on TV dramas. Playing the part of John Graham in the movie Furor, was my first acting role in a movie.
I've more recently been trying get back into traditional art as well as acting, and I've been doing a lot more oil painting, and have been exhibiting as much as I can. It's slow going trying to earn a living like this, but things are moving steadily forward, and I'm happy which is the most important. More galleries are showing my work, so things are moving, slowly but surely.
If I fail at doing what I'm trying to do, well, at least I can say that I gave myself the opportunity to fail, rather than saying, I just didn't bother trying.
I also have a website selling 3d models that I have made, I'll be gradually adding more to that over time. I want this same site to be a gallery for my paintings as well as my 3d work.
Graphicpod.com is the 3d and traditional art website that I created with Wendy Shepherd.
This
month we celebrate the Synoikia with sacrifices and ceremonies to
Athena, Zeus Phratrios (Zeus as a symbol of tribal brotherhood) and
Eirene (Goddess of Peace). The Synoecism is meant to create unity, yet
this begins our season of Warfare, so it most often was ultimately
about taking sides. It was only when this infighting stopped that
Greece achieved greatness. There is much that can be learned from
history, if only people cared to learn it.

Although I thought I
had failed, my rebellion led Rome to institute major changes in how
they treated Britannia, enabling the Celtic ways to survive, although
filtered through Roman and Christian traditions, into your time. This
is what I had fought for: the right of my people to live their lives,
responsible for themselves.
I am aware a number of modern
countries celebrate their independence this month, and I wonder how
many of you today truly cherish what you have, and I wonder to what
lengths would you go to preserve your way of life? Complacency, apathy,
and a lack of a moral center destroy a people from within.
THERE ARE AT LEAST THREE "SCHOLARLY" INTERPRETATIONS OF THE CELTIC CALENDAR
Places
where water meets land are sacred and mystical, as places of transition
from one essential form to another, places where two forms of matter
converge. In addition to this, we add the element of fire to
celebrations on shorelines and riverbanks. This is a powerful time, a
time of strength and resolution, added to further by the Mighty Oak
being the tree associated with this dawning of Summer.
Beautiful Sirius, the brightest star in the sky, rises at this time of
year, after an absence from our skies of some 70-75 days. Sirius is
The Dog Star, the brightest member of the constellation Canis Major
("The Big Dog"), and thus the period after his return has been called
"The Dog Days of Summer." Our ancient Calendar relied on this to mark
our summer's beginning, the Ancient Greeks used it to mark the
beginning of their year, and the Ancient Egyptians predicted the annual
flooding of the Nile based on the return of Sirius. Many African and
European cultures, old and new, have mythology tied to our dear
beautiful, bright brother Sirius.
Skirophorion means "Parasol bearers" and is a festival which
celebrated the fertility of the women and of the soil with various
public and secret rituals for goddesses Demeter and Kore that are
sexual in nature, although the women abstained from sex for the day of
the Skira in order to bring fecundity to the land. The one activity in
which the men performed was a race carrying vines laden with grapes:
the winner would be given the Fivefold Cup, filled with prizes of wine,
honey, cheese, corn, and olive oil.
The
warm weather of the month generally saw many parasols carried by or for
fine ladies who had to be out in the sun, and there was a prayer
offered to the goddesses to prevent the heat of the summer from being
too great.
Lurid depiction, but it doesn't change the fact that it happened in May of 61 C.E. following the suspicious death of my husband. If you have read my page, you know that the Roman Procurator (Financial Officer) of Britannia had been stealing from the tax fund and was going to be caught without money to hand over to Rome. This robbery, and enslavement of my people, would fill some of those empty coffers and the sexual torture of myself and the gang rape of my daughters, aged 9 and 11, would give some sick pleasure to the Roman veterans who had been resettled on stolen lands in my country.
My daughters and I, and those of my people who were not killed or enslaved, took refuge with our neighbours, and I began to plot the Celtic Revolt, which I would lead in the weeks after my wounds had sufficiently healed.
Most people would agree that California is The Land of Excess. What a lot of people forget is that California is also The Land of Plenty. We have some of the biggest forests, rivers, mountains, lakes, and agricultural areas in the world. In late April and in May, we have more strawberries than we know what to do with. So many cities and towns have Strawberry Festivals around May Day, even places outsiders think of as being only populated by unnaturally gorgeous, wealthy, snobby people living and working in skyscraping buildings (if you've never been to California, you have no idea what this place is REALLY like). And every restaurant, large or small, is advertising their most beautiful and delicious Strawberry Specialties for very low prices because there is SO MUCH. For my friends here in the Northern Hemisphere, we are in the fullness of Spring. For my friends here who are in the Southern Hemisphere, you are six short weeks from winter. I hope abundant May finds you with all you need. How much more blessed are you if you also have all you WANT. At any rate, may you be surrounded by friends to share it with. A May Day wish from Miss Yvonne.
THERE ARE AT LEAST THREE "SCHOLARLY" INTERPRETATIONS OF THE ANCIENT CELTIC CALENDAR.
The post-Roman and post-Christian Celtic "revision" of this festival, often called Belta(i)ne, blended elements of the conquerors' traditions into the ancient celebration of abundance, fecundity, and romantic love...such as the elaborate May Day festivities depicted above in Collier's "Maying of Queen Guinevere." During Cetsamhain, lovers or spouses would leap over fire together to ensure joy and prosperity in their unions.
My last Cetsamhain was not one of joy, as my beloved husband fell suddenly, mysteriously ill and died. Immediately after this, the Roman Procurator of Britain and his soldiers (and Roman army veterans who had been given tracts of our stolen land) tore into our chiefdom, took all our possessions and animals, whipped, scourged, and raped me, gang raped my little girls, and slaughtered or enslaved the rest.
If you have read my page, you will know what happened next.
Today, though, during Cetsamhain, love your family and friends, be grateful for what you have, and take a leap of faith over the fire.
The feast of Eros is held this month (okay, I promise no crude jokes about what was eaten at the feast - LOL) to honour that wonderful pain in the neck.
Only Eros could lie around just waiting for love...the rest of us have to work damned hard to get it, and even harder to keep it. Hope you find some this Mounikhion.
