Perceptive Records Inc.
is an independent label catering to the average hardcore hip hop head who's in search for some raw tunes. Perceptive Recordings was born as a result of label politics with certain record companies & distributors not worth the mention all due to the usual bullsh*t cloud of pathetic sadness. "Them not giving us what we wanted"...and yes, it's that simple, "A little freedom from lethal strong-hold to record with others we had seen fit to match our caliber & wits", "ideas regarding marketing, promotion & distribution were dismissed", "assets for an excursion into Europe on some get universal type vibe was denied", "contracts wanted our blood well scripted on line by that all too familiar "X" but wouldn't grant health insurance, a well crafted pension plan, our masters nor publishing". Now i ask, If a product is given on the strength you accept the content and is more than pleased to move units out to the masses as quickly as possible (as it was stated), then when done so explain why would "the hunt" begin for payment that's rightfully due to us (the artist)?!? This automatic process should be granted, "we weren't about to compromise and risk losing our ghosts for something we love dearly". (Conglomerates crew remain underground dwellers patiently waiting for their time to strike and reclaim the earth!) As time passed, some of these same labels that were interested in our group went under or just began to suck real bad like foul mouth crusty/dusty broads with narcolepsy and that's when a believer/mentor/brother & friend Lee Lugo decided to establish his own imprint and bring a nasty/crazy ill/nice/mental/rapid fire/dope/fly/fresh sound to the streets makin' our only 2 fans extremely cheerful. Thank you Tom "Angus Scrimm" Martinez for the lil' assist in take off, all was appreciated. Working with chump change by industry standards Lee Lugo went ahead and pressed up their first 12inch "Metallic Wings" b/w "Astrological" & "Meta.Phor's Mutiny" in the winter of 1999 into 2000. With some petty cash for promotions we had to work the clock 24/7 inorder to get dj's across the globe to give us a chance on their college/pirate/internet radio shows & mixtapes. Crazy out there hitting up mad spots with stickers, flyers & wax! As the promo's went out we began to receive some loving for our 1st born and since then we've kept improving making some dope records for our peoples to spin on the regular. As far as our catalog goes....there is not much but there is a handful of dumb nice songs to choose from. Again, we know it's been a minute and we apologize for our lil' hiatus (life's ill and terrible things happen when you least expect it) but trust us...the new ish is simply techjunglefirewordyscratchfilthyoutofsight smashing. Stay Tuned...
