When Percy Aldridge Grainger died on February 20, 1961, he was discontent with himself and his works. He felt they were being neglected, not being played enough. It might be that he wasn't truly seen as a virtuoso of compositon until after his death. You can see (hear) that his pieces are amazing, if you have any taste in classical music.
Percy didn't study with the masters of composing, he worked with amatuers, and he still turned out very well. Percy didn't start composing at 6 or 7, he began at 17, and still ended up writing over 600 published pieces. Percy didn't go to a prestigious school and study compostion with professors, and he still turned out to be a phenomenon.
One of the highlights of the Vortex London Jazz Festival – TIME OUT
Featuring Fyfe Dangerfield (from Guillemots), Gannets posit an alternative jazz history in which 30's swing developed straight into a combined form of the free jazz and fusion movements, without any of the intervening decades.
Fyfe Dangerfield - keyboards + electronics
Alex J Ward - clarinet
Christopher Cundy - bass clarinet
Dominic Lash - double bass
Steve Noble - drums

The Orange County Wind Ensemble (OCWE - Southern California) literally performed Irish Tune on County Derry, this afternoon. It went exceptionally well, and was truly the highlight of our concert! Bravo, Percy!
Thanks for the add ! Interisting and beautiful composition ^__^ Greetings from Milan, Italy of Trio Antares. Paola Terenzio, Gianmaria Bellisario, Angelo Colletti
Actually, Grainger wrote his first pieces when he was 11! They were a couple of piano pieces, "Prelude in G" was probably the first. You can hear them on the 16th Volume of the Grainger Edition. look em up on Amazon! Pretty sweet for 11.
