Sounds Like
"Sort of new wave but a bit gruffer, Perennials put out manly melodies - or just not shrill ones. They're eclectic, delivering a power pop number one moment and goth, glam dance music the next, but one constant is the powerful hooks that'll sink into you."
-Vicki Siolos, the Weekly Dig
"Reminds me of the Misfits, except that instead of a singer who's trying to be a demonic Frankie Lymon, they've got a singer who's a demonic Moz."
-Carly Carioli, The Boston Phoenix
"New wave with all the hooks and none of the wimpish emasculation."
-Mike Snoonian, Pocket Full of Chump Change
"Singer John Flax’s stage presence could have worked an audience 10 times as big[...] met with deserving admiration from those who dutifully stuck it out till 1 am — and then as dutifully helped pack the vans."
-Megan Bell, The Boston Phoenix
"The Perennials' 'Delerium Tremont' is staggering drunk, all over the place and loving every single minute of it."
-Warren Ellis, author of "Transmetropolitan" and "Crooked Little Vein" and musical collaborator of Nick Cave.
The Perennials formed in 2005 after various members' short-lived stints in a bunch of local bands, including the Click Five, Furvis, Disaster Strikes, Dead Ellington, the Black Freighter and Slick Pig.
We played our first show in April of 2006, then soldiered through an endless parade of lineup changes and botched recording sessions for years. Finally (through the saintly patience of our friends at Tactical Sound Studios), we recorded a six-song, over-a-year-in-the-making massive dramatic ordeal of a record. We never got the resources together to give it a proper release.
Refusing to let a little thing like having no record out weaken our resolve to be the biggest band in the world, we busted our asses booking and playing way too many shows. We played all over the East Coast, with bands like the Thermals, A Place to Bury Strangers, the Avengers, Japanther, the Chinese Stars, New Model Army, the Vivian Girls, the Oxford Collapse, Read Yellow, Deer Tick, the World/Inferno Friendship Society and a million others.
The band is defunct now, but all the members are still active in a number of other projects, regarding which we will continue to update this page.
