It's not surprising for me to wake up with a song in my head...music feeds and elevates my soul...
....The Exorcist, Sixteen Candles, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Enchanted April, Like Water for Chocolate, Amelie, Slam, The Hunger, Black Widow, What the Bleep Do We Know, Contact, Bull Durham, Blade Runner, Donnie Darko, V for Vendetta, Little Miss Sunshine, and yes, even Dumb and Dumber and White Chicks
gotta love this movie...towanda!
I am also a huge fan of older movies on AMC...but partial to Kate Hepburn, Hitchcock, Joan Crawford, and Bette Davis... I also love Sundance channel and IFC. Also, I need to say that I dislike the Americanized versions of excellent foreign movies...come on folks, is it really that hard to read subtitles?

I like authors who evoke through their poetic imagery and powerful words: E.M. Forrester, Shakespeare, Naomi Wolf, Susan Faludi, Anne Lamott, Anne Rice (Lestat!), Barbara Ehrenreich, Susan Sontag, Octavia Butler, and David Sedaris for a good hearty chuckle.
The most influential books on my life, though, include The Handmaid's Tale and Real Live Nude Girl: Chronicles of Sex Positive Culture... I have to say that it honestly scares me with how little it is that people actually read for pleasure these days...but then again, it isn't often enough that I get to read for pleasure when I'm teaching...
“Success means being heard and don’t stand there and tell me that you are indifferent to being heard..." - Flannery O'Connor| What Your Soul Really Looks Like |
![]() You are a grounded person, but you also leave room for imagination and dreams. You feet may be on the ground, but you're head is in the clouds. You see yourself with pretty objective eyes. How you view yourself is almost exactly how other people view you. Your near future is in a very different place (both physically and mentally) from where you are right now. For you, love is all about caring and comfort. You couldn't fall in love with someone you didn't trust. |
People who dare to speak up and tell the truth...even if its just saying that the emperor is not wearing any clothes or exposing the man behind the curtain...free speech is something not to be taken for granted and is worth dying for... It's more of the everyday people who are really my heroes...you just never know what small acts of bravery and courage that people are capable of on a daily basis...my mother-in-law is included in this one.
I am a wanderer, but looking for a place to call home. I have lived in Pennsyltucky, Farm Vegas, L.A., and CT in recent times. Had a brief stint in TX during my high school years, and spent my formative years in the suburbs of Chi-town. I am now in the wild west, where I am currently awaiting the next mission, whatever that may be. In the mean time, I've been looking for an obsession to distract me (but not get me in trouble) and get me through this hellish state of trying to figure out who I want to be and what I want to do when I grow up, so here I am...
One thing that I am finding with teaching is that I feel old. I watch entirely too much TV, as I illustrate points in class with phrases from movies or shows...and my students look at me like "huh?". Case in point: talking about assimilation, I use the example of the Borg from Star Trek Next Generation, you know, "resistance is futile"...no clue. Just a generation gap? Not entirely sure...

![]() Fear not though - you are on your way to world domination. |
| .. | You scored as Cultural Creative. Cultural Creatives are probably the newest group to enter this realm. You are a modern thinker who tends to shy away from organized religion but still feels as if there is something greater than ourselves. You are very spiritual, even if you are not religious. Life has a meaning outside of the rational.

Hmmm...let's see...Mrs. Dorothy Pa'ker, Bono, and fun, yet serious people...(whoo hoo!) Can't take things too seriously, though...*must* have a sense of humor, folks! Other than that, I don't have a list of people I want to meet...I've met a lot of interesting people over the years -- people who have studied with shamans, etc., and wish there was a way to simply heal the world...
A note on myspace friends: I do like making friends here in myspace-land, but I have developed hesitation in automatically adding folks with some weirdness that happened with people I don't know very well...I respectfully request that if you wish to become a friend, I need to hear from you as a way to get to know you first. I won't add you if you have an empty profile and especially if you post advertisements without permission. No mean-ness intended...just asking that you play nice...

Native American Prayer
Oh, Great Spirit
Whose voice I hear in the winds,
And whose breath gives life to all the world,
hear me, I am small and weak,
I need your strength and wisdom.
Let me walk in beauty and make my eyes ever behold
the red and purple sunset.
Make my hands respect the things you have
made and my ears sharp to hear your voice.
Make me wise so that I may understand the things
you have taught my people.
Let me learn the lessons you have
hidden in every leaf and rock.
I seek strength, not to be greater than my brother,
but to fight my greatest enemy - myself.
Make me always ready to come to you
with clean hands and straight eyes.
So when life fades, as the fading sunset,
my Spirit may come to you without shame.
(translated by Lakota Sioux Chief Yellow Lark in 1887)
