Sounds Like
"Radiohead meets Morricone. Love the instrumentation."...David Holmes, producer/film composer.
"It has taken three years for Perico to plunder their way through antique shops and musical styles to bring you the flamboyant display of moods, sounds and instruments you see today. While they most definitely hark from the UK, with ironic ballads of break-up suburban drudgery and drunken misadventure abounding, Perico at the same time offer and antidote to this world. And they have found a worthy soul-mate in the Paper Cinema - the brainchild of artist Nic Beard - a stange contraption of paper puppets that rattles to life before each gig, projecting its bizarre cast behind leaping silhouttes of Perico's musicians. Like Perico, The Paper Cinema is a world at odds with itself, trapped between ancient myth and modern day fable. Needless to say the two entities reemain inseparable." Future Cinema
"Imagine a musical landscape full of romance, with flamenco-style acoustic guitars and trumpets; with sudden bursts of passion and slow interludes of implicit tragedy. The only other British indie band I can think of who likewise cultivate their fertile garden without a care for a world of fashionable facsimiles is The Tindersticks." Neil Scott, The Mind's Construction.
"Here we find slow Spanish guitars and exotic lyrics building up to an El Mariachi stomp as the distinctive cornet helps create a wistful image of some lost Mexican landscape. The lilting interchange between hushed guitar and frenzied cornet builds to a climatic finish of Mexican chants that wouldn’t sound out of place in a Tarantino movie." Maxim Fernandez, Glasswerk.
"Utterly unique…a singer and his pocket-orchestra that swing between debauched cabaret and profound melancholy" The Guardian.
"It's hard to pin down, but Perico have hit upon quite a unique sound that echoes an unscripted cabaret. An animation show performed by the Paper Cinema, displayed on a big screen in unison, compliments the songs with romantic images of revellers caught up in a dark but sweet world of their own making. It's a strange improvised cocktail not on any existing menu, but Perico know how to make and shake it." Battersea Arts Centre, London.
PERICO write and perform music that has people flummoxed as to how to describe them.....something like a collision between jerky alt-rock and woozy folk-inflected bar-room music, with an array of instrumentation to put most bands to shame. Often, live projected animation from the PAPER CINEMA adds a surreal and original visual dimension to every show.
Recently, Perico and the Paper Cinema have played at the Latitudeand Big Chill Festivals and a number of key London venues: Battersea Arts Centre, Cargo, 93 Feet East (Rock 'n' Roll Cinema), SE1 Club, and recently FABRIC as part of Future Cinema's METROPOLIS themed End of Tour Extravaganza ....confirming them as one of the most original live acts around, musically and visually...
"On their second album, "Toy Swords and Kalashnikovs", Perico continue
to merge the childlike with the macabre. There are drums, sometimes
shuffling, sometimes hurtling towards us from the audio middle
distance. there are cornets and trumpets flying around somewhere just
over our heads, sounding like grizzled ghosts who've drunk themselves
into the ether around about the turn of the 19th century. There are
dulcimers, spindly and isolated, and yet radiating a kind of detached
wonder. And there are stories in miniature, as songs always should be,
relayed to us via vocalist Mathew Cameron, of errant soldiers and lost children, of dissipated lovers and decimated fathers, of nights of the town and
mornings on the edge. Something akin to hearing a novel jump from the page and spring to life. Something else in the DNA of this album seems to emanate more form the Eastern Bloc than the hispanic inflections of their debut. But this album, unlike so many of its new folk contempoararies, doesn't outstay its welcome, closing
with the imperious drawl of "Lo", an eight minute carousel whose instruments chart a seemingly never ending ascent. It's a pretty special album." Joseph Malborn, Noise Makes Enemies Magazine

I would like for you to stop by my myspace page to view the film thriller trailer for "The Message", scheduled for release Sept, 09. I would like your opinion as well on the youtube site for the trailer.
I can't express how valuable your opinion is to us as we are creating 3 more trailers with more defined details for viewers to better understand what this film is really about.
Hi Matt. Im back in the Studio's on thursday, thus I will find out what evenings are free to book a recording session. Tuesday and Wednesday evenings are better for me, which evenings are best with you?
Ps. It would also be great to promote the music you and Pete have been making, via the Chale House Compilation CD. Maybe we could book another recording session for this, after yours?
Although I had intended on giving your Chale House demo tracks a remix, after listening to them I was reminded we had recorded everything simultaneously into 1 microphone, (test recordings in prep for demo). I have managed to secure a Chale House Records recording session at the Solent Studio’s in Southampton next Wednesday 4th March, 2009. Would you like the opportunity to re-record your tracks in a Professional Pro-Tools HD and Mastering Studio.
Hi Matt tis Mike jurado. In between my current university deadlines, I am still plucking away at the Chale House Records compilation album, magazine and websites. I have sent you a comment with your picture and a short blog. May you approve this for the CHR myspace page please? Feel free to edit the writing (gramer) and send back.
Matt Cameron, the frontman of Perico, was one of the few artists to record for the album when we were still based at the legendary Chale House. Matt had recorded a 3 track demo, in preparation for the Chale house artists compilation album, when our project studio, and abodes, were abruptly uprooted before our very eyes, literally!. These demo recordings were not intended to be the final product , yet “the moody and atmospheric songs performed by Cameron on vocals and guitar” reveal the true soul of one of the best songwriters I have ever had the privilege to work with. TBC for release on "The Truth" CHR Compilation album. www. myspace. com/chalehouserecordings
