Backup personnel changes. But I’m 5’10, Pisces, etc etc. Just wanted to throw that in.

Influences
Art is my biggest inspiration: the work of Adam Cvijanovic, Inka Essenhigh, David Humphrey, Ellen Altfest, Santi Moix; Velasquez, Breughel, Homer, Turner, Eva Hesse, Meret Oppenheim, Jules de balincourt....Music loves: The beatles, without whom I'm nothing, , Joni Mitchell, pretty much all Motown, , Julie London, Nick Lowe,, Rockpile,Sarah Vaughan, XTC, Elvis Costello, Tom Lehrer,Michael Smith (the legendary Chicago song writer), not the Christian rock guy),Kaye Starr, all the great torch and lounge singers from the 1920's-50's, Ray Charles,The Five Royales, Linda Ronstadt, Karla Bonoff, the great jazz cats (John Coltrane/Miles David, etc), ARETHA, earlier Warren Zevon, the California Songwriting Renaissance of the 70's cats, Eartha Kitt, Peggy Lee, .., Ray Davies, LOTTE LENYA, Kurt Weill, Craig Carnelia, and of course Kirsty MacColl. The waterboys. Kate and Anna MacGarrigle. Fairport Convention. Anyone Joe Boyd ever had anything to do with. Anything Kevin Killen ever engineered or produced.Strange Russian pop music.French chanteur music of the Zazou period (20's and 30's) The Chinese muzak you hear in Chinatown hair salons, where they're doing unironic covers of 70's country songs...very excellent. .-God, I hate listing my music taste. You reread it three days later and think "I can't believe I said I liked those people. That's not who I like. I like TOTALLY different people than that." And then you forget to change it, and people who've never met you are like "Oh my God, she seemed so cool, but man, the music thing...I don't know." And your whole life changes, and you never even know why.
Sounds Like
A bit like Sandy Denny, a bit like Kirsty, a bit like Julie London, but mostly like my own odd self. Socially conscious ethereal folk meets cabaret, with the sadness of sex thrown in.
Peri Lyons writes songs and then sings them.
She's a two-time Fellow of the prestigious Cabaret Symposium at the Eugene O'Neill Center in Connecticut, where she was mentored by legends such as Margaret Whiting, Kaye Starr, Karen Akers and Julie Wilson, among other grand dames of jazz and cabaret. She has had songs on the soundtracks of movies, including the Sundance Grand Prize winner "Sunday" and "Signs and Wonders", as well as doing music for Italian television. Her songs have been sung by great artists (Lisa Asher, Phillip Officer, Barbra Brussell, Andrea Marcovicci) at every cabaret space in NYC, including the Oak Room at the Algonquin. She's played Town Hall, and more cabaret clubs than she's had hot dinners. She's also sung in many countries, but the subsequent civil unrest in each afterwards was honestly just a coincidence. She has written songs with such greats as Craig Carnelia, Michael Smith, Brian Feinstein, and once wrote a song with Nick Lowe but they were both too tipsy to remember ir subsequently, so that might not count.
Peri has been singing professionally since the age of 14, an age that would have come as an unwelcome surprise to the people who owned the bars she was singing in.
Her new show, "Famous In France", is an insane meditation on celebrity, and quite fun. It's got a song written from the point of view of the WIFE of the Marquis de Sade, a song about the wistful recognition that you (well, I) will never actually be Angelina Jolie [no, no, tht's a GOOD thing, in many respects] and a song about a silent film star who is eventually eaten by her dachshunds. There will also be alcohol served. Which might be necessary, looking at the set list.
If you want to know anything more about her, just listen to the music, above. She wrote the stuff. They are "song sketches", which means that the orchestration is not set in stone, but is just to put the song forward, simply.Feel free to send her money to make a cd and get the job done PROPERLY. Thank you.
Peri also teaches Kundalini Yoga, is certified in Reiki, and these days does intuitive readings for thems as wants 'em. That's all. Now go outside and get some fresh air, lovey.
Oh, wait, no, come back. There's more. -The new song, "I Google You", was written by NY Times bestselling author ("American Gods""Good Omens""Stardust"et al) and devil-may-care man-about-town (and hyphen-collector, apparently) Neil Gaiman, who is a genius, or at least looks very genius-y and all in that leather jacket of his.
A ninth generation Manhattanite, she is from an illustrious theater family: the grandaughter of Broadway playwright Xharles Knox Robinson, and the niece of 50's theater stars Judith and Charles Knox Robinson III (Leads in "Dark At The Top of The Stairs" and "Tall Story", among other Bway hits), both proteges of Elia Kazan's. Peri comes from old money that got too old and then, sadly, died. She is the great-great granddaughter of the man who invented the collapsible top hat. Her great grandmother could, famously,be seen walking her pet deer down Park Avenue wearing a diamond collar and gold leash. (The deer, that is. Not the great grandmother.) The last few sentences make Peri believe that heredity is not just a theory. Sigh. Peri loves you and wants you to be happy, so do yoga, go to sleep early and avoid late nights and nightclubs;be a vegetarian, and quit drinking.-Then knock that nonsense off, and go back to being debauched: THAT will make you REALLY happy! xxxp
Peri - I liked the song you wrote "What time is it in Texas", including the live patter after, evidently a song you don't have posted. What song was that a lead in to? Oh, by the way I have a new song about...New York.. posted on MySpace, it's a lullabye..you might recognize it. Let me know what you think. You're voice is sounding awesome BTW. Luv - David
