The term "Musical Emergency" best describes the many genres of music in which PMM fluently indulged. Drawing from Rock, Fusion, Funk, Jazz, Electronic, Acoustic, Classical, Avant-Garde, and Acapella, the Motion Machine formed a palette. With this palette, they painted musical pictures in oddness where geniuses like John Cage and Frank Zappa left off, while maintaining the harmonically advanced accessibility of Steely Dan.
The Perpetual Motion Machine was founded on April 20th, 1998 by composer/guitarist Paul Pollini and multipercussionist Harley Smith. Over the next year an a half, Paul and Harley worked to develop and refine PMM’s genre defying sound (with the help of four different bass players, a piano player and trombonist) while studying Jazz and Contemporary Music at the University of Maine at Augusta. In January of 2000, with the addition of bottom feeder Cassidy Holden The Machine’s lineup had finally solidified, resulting in a balance of musical talents that redefined the roles of guitar, bass, and drums in a power trio.
Over the next two years, this critically acclaimed alliance of award winning fusion practitioners played clubs, colleges, clinics, theatres, and festivals throughout the Northeast, performing extended sets for audiences of thousands. The Perpetual Motion Machine staged music and art festivals, performed original scores live to film, performed at political rallies, and were featured on radio stations such as WTOS 105.1, WMHB 87.9, and WUMF 88.1. In addition, PMM’s classic lineup recorded two CDs (2001’s The Perpetual Motion Machine, and 2002’s farewell, Welcome To Diagonal Lines) and toured the Northern New England festival, club, and clinic circuits with jazz trumpeter Don Stratton (Charlie Parker, Max Roach, and Gerry Mulligan). Paul, Harley, and Cassidy Performed there last show together as The Perpetual Motion Machine on June 21st , 2002.

Ever wondered what to do in the event of a nuclear threat?
A while ago I found stuff that inspired me to make this film:
Living Under the Shadow of the Nuclear Umbrella
Both artistic (ensure you get the background music!) and educational, it primarily comprises official British government civil defence advice.
Though source materials are quite aged, much remains relevant today.

On Monday 4th June 2007 between 1.30pm and 3.45pm a rehearsal for Liverpool’s Big Sing will be held at Liverpool’s Anglican Cathedral. Thirteen schools from Merseyside will be represented by their choirs to sing a new charity song called Warchild.
The song Warchild originally written by musician /actor Chris O’Neill, from the award winning film Backbeat, where he played the part of George Harrison. After seeing the plight of starving children shown on the ITV programme This Morning, when they were raising awareness for the charity Warchild.
The new recording will be available for a very small charge on download from www.indiestore.com/chrisoneill. For every £40 pounds made from these proceeds, incredibly, we can feed a child for a whole year who has been orphaned by Aids in Africa! A very small price to pay to save a child’s life.
