About me: i started drumming at 13 here in LA..i took lesons from michael barsimonto(jean luc ponty, mark isham, ivan neville, eddie jobson) then and he's still a friend all these years later..i then studied with irv gershenz through high school and he became also a father figure and mentor and is also still a dear friend..
in 1988 studied for a year at musicians institute playing jazz with chuck flores, reading, afro-cuban with chuck silverman, brazilian with mike shapiro, rock ect..in 1993 i earned a bfa in world music (west african music) from cal arts where i played in jazz ensembles, percussion groups, indonesian gamelan, contemporary classical & had many amazing teachers including efrian toro, jon bergamo, ed mann, charlie haden, tootie heath, mike shapiro, ladzekpo brothers that i learnt so much from..from 92-94 i toured with one ring circus "circus flora" for 2 years..
since then ive been playing with a lot of original bands and artists, making records, touring, making a living , not making a living & teaching but always playing for the song , music, and the people that show up..a few folks ive got to play with include tommy mars, arthur barrow and ed mann of zappa's band, chuck negron of three dog night, bassist tim bogert..
for 5 years i played in spanish kitchen(later renamed mysterypop) an eclectic melodic pop band and we made a record with doug fieger of the knack who produced..we opened for the knack, stan ridgeway of wall of voodoo, Jonathan Richman, stew (who was a star on broadway ), and X..
for 3 years i was in a jamband called seismic touring up and down the west coast and arizona where we opened for particle, new monsoon, porter batiste stoltz, melvin seals, jerry joseph, dirty dozen brass band, karl denson, & jamed with stanton moore...
other bands and artists ive played with include wozani a worldbeat/acoustic/soul band that recorded with wil-dog of ozomatli and also toured with them, peter himmelman, sugarhill recording artist grey delisle along with husband/bassist murray hammond of old 97's who toured holland and the us including bumbershoot festival, nashville, and sxsw and opened for wanda jackson, tim easton and old 97's...currently i play with singer/songwriters bob gentry, chris mouch, and roots/blues rockers hank deluxe and the elbow benders, and the honorable dhc...
for fun i have a drummimg podcast where i interview cats about well drums, music, life ect.. i have 25 episodes as of now..some guests include jack johnson's adam topol, cougar estrada of los lobos, johnny vatos of oingo boingo, lucinda william's butch norton, jason hann formerly of the string cheese incident and dean butterworth of good charlotte among others..
