Guitarist Perry Smith is quickly gaining recognition in today’s jazz scene. Based in Los Angeles, he is founding member of the critically acclaimed New West Guitar Group and the Kathleen Grace Band. With both groups he has performed extensively throughout the United States, Japan, Germany and Canada.
In addition to performing, he leads guitar ensembles for underprivileged students as part of his involvement with the non-profit program Education Through Music Los Angeles.
He is also an award-winning composer, having received honors from the 2007 International Songwriting Competition and the 2006 ASCAP Young Jazz Composers Award.
In 2005 he received his Bachelor of Music from the Flora L. Thornton School of Music at the University of Southern California, where he studied guitar with jazz legend Joe Diorio and composition with National Medal of Arts recipient John Clayton.
He has performed and worked with legendary artists including Dave Brubeck, Nancy Wilson, Pat Metheny, Harry Belafonte, Bobby McFerrin, Louie Bellson, Kenny Wheller, Larry Goldings, Joe Labarbra, Peter Erksine, Bob Sheppard, Darek Oles, Alan Pasqua, Roy McCurdy, and Charles McPherson.
