"Pervertable Tongues make music that is alternately cacophonous and melodic. It’s a heady cocktail of found sounds and frontwoman Krystal Fawn’s acrobatic vocal stylings."--Consequence of Sound, Chicago

“Cyborg politics is the struggle for language and the struggle against perfect communication, against the one code that translates all meaning perfectly, the central dogma of phallogocentrism. That is why cyborg politics insist on noise and advocate pollution, rejoicing in the illegitimate fusions of animal and machine. These are the couplings which make Man and Woman so problematic, subverting the structure of desire, the force imagined to generate language and gender, and so subverting the structure and modes of reproduction of 'Western' identity, of nature and culture, of mirror and eye, slave and master, body and mind.” --Theorist-activist, Donna Harroway--

Consisting of eclectic blending of a wide-range of genres—from noise to du-wop, trip-hop to fuzz rock, doom to soul, vocalist/lyricist Krystal Fawn Baugher with partner, artist/musician RW Ruehlen have chosen to step beyond the ordinary boundaries of genre in the indie rock scene. With their philosophy deeply rooted in D.I.Y. and later inspiration from the riot grrrl movement the appeal of Pervertable Tongues is its ability to dive into lively feminist and post-modern cultural issues while capturing the humor, absurdity and seriousness all at once. The duo enlisted multi-instrumentalist Michael Abbe and drummer extraordinaire Nicole Roach, both Chicagoland natives, to perform live with them, and are having a kick ass time!
“Syntactical Makeover” was recorded in their Chicago home over a course of six months; Ruehlen, a self taught multi-instrumentalist, has been recording solo work since late 2003. After recording an album with the Western Kansas outfit, My Uncle is a Cannibal in 2007, and a year long effort on his 2008 solo album “Telefuzz Fairytale”, he wanted to take his music and his recording process in a different direction, while collaborating with Baugher. Baugher’s aspiration in Pervertable Tongues is to inspire innovation in all people who feel the urge to create and use their voice as a source of empowerment, satire and social justice. Coming from rural Kansas, where D.I.Y. is the main source of musical outlet, she was lead vocalist and song writer in the noise-rock trio Virgin and the Bandits as well as a constant participate in all avenues of theater performance; Baugher has understood from an early age the importance of every individual voice and expression.
Growing up in an age where music from many cultures and time periods have become easily accessible, PT find thrill in the willful smashing and melding of musical styles into a cohesive, modern sound, using an array of acoustic and electric instruments and gadgets to take the listener through a mind-bending explosion of cultural criticism.
