For a bit of fun :) I joined an aussie punk/surf power trio (think of pulp fiction...) called The Bundy Boys. I play Bass and Sing!
My other pet project is called "Project Sign Language" Sign Language is the name of DVD Album I'm working on as DeafboyOne (Deaf Sign name given to me by clients at the Royal National Institute for Deaf people in the UK where I worked as a Music Therapist to the Deaf).
My long term aim is that... "One day all Deaf and Hard of Hearing people will have the same access to and enjoyment of Music as Hearing people enjoy today..."
In the short term I am recording everything I ever produced wrote and performed as a Singer Songwriter Guitarist DeafboyOne before my hearing impairment becomes profound - ie I go Deaf. (My ear drums were perforated in a freak accident at school - kid came up behind me and slapped both ears....) I've been learning Sign Language...
both British Sign (BSL), American (ASL) and Australian Sign Language (Auslan). It occurred to me that Musicians generally are ignorant of the visuality of their music. About 60% of Deaf people (like Hearing people) enjoy Music but obviously their access to music is limited to "feel"/"vibrations" and interpreted lyrics, nonetheless Deaf people want better access to Music. If you watch a standard pop video do you ever see the Singer "Signing their lyrics at same time? Answer = No" Why? Ignorance of Sign Language. Solution? Bring Sign Language to the attention of Musicians so they will incorporate Deaf friendly communication in their output... Simple.
When DeafboyOne has completed first stage of recording all his music, the second stage is to Film Deaf friendly videos of each song. The potential market is huge. I understand there are Deaf friendly "rappers" working on Dance/HipHop/R&B videos as we speak. Any genre of Music can do this. I was asked the other day "Well what about instrumentals?" My response? What message is your instrumental about? Now do you understand what DeafboyOnes aims and aspirations are? Good. So lets bring our Deaf and Hard of Hearing friends into the Music Community... and one day... (any day now...) people will not think twice about speaking and Signing at the same time. Watch an Italian gesticulating... or a Greek Goddess expressing herself... we all use our hands dont we? Now go break the sound barrier :) Pete DeafboyOne

Communication...
I remember my German girlfriend telling me she learned English by watching Bowie videos... now that struck me as a simple but effective way for communication...
So the hearing world could learn Deaf Sign Language through Music...!
Fantastic! Just watch a Sign Language interpreter Signing to Pop Music
You'll be amazed how much you'll pick up...
Start a revolution from your skull...

Deaf culture is a term applied to the social movement that holds deafness to be a difference in human experience rather than a disability. When used in a cultural sense, the word deaf is referred to as Deaf with a capital D.
Deaf communities do not automatically include all those who are clinically or legally deaf, nor do they exclude all hearing people. It is not the extent of hearing loss that defines a member of the Deaf community but the individual's own sense of identity and resultant actions. As with all social groups a person may choose to belong to a particular community if they identify themselves as a member of that community, and other members accept them as a part of that community.
The Deaf community typically includes individuals who communicate via signed languages, individuals who attended schools for the deaf, children of deaf parents, and sign language interpreters. Deaf communities also often possess social and cultural norms that are distinct from those of surrounding hearing communities.
Earlier today, I talked to Dan at 93.9fm The River, and he said they are "just waiting for the emails" He said if you (the fans) send an email (use My Head Radio as the subject) to youshouldplaythis@939theriverradio.com the message goes DIRECTLY to the Program Director's desk and THAT'S who we need to convince. It's a bunch easier than calling (though that still helps 313-298-7094 ;) but if you have a minute, can you PLEASE send them a message, I think we're almost there!!!!! AND, if you have 2 minutes, will you throw a bulletin up asking others to do the same. ;)
