Influences
The whole jazz tradition -in no particular order: Bill Evans, John Coltrane, Jim Hall, Herbie Hancock, John Scofield, Bud Powell, Sonny Rollins, Kenny Burrell, McCoy Tyner, Jonathan Kreisberg, Lee Morgan, Joe Lovano, Mike Walker (UK), Richie Beirach, Pat Metheny, Billy Higgins, Wynton Kelly, Ed Bickert, Wayne Shorter, Duke Pearson, Bill Frisell, Benny Golson, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Phil Markowitz, and many many more...
Petri Krzywacki has worked as a professional musician since the mid nineties. He is a sought after player for gigs of various styles and he delivers playing that is refined, sophisticated but emotionally charged. In May 2007, he released his debut CD, One Step Out, a bold trio outing with mostly original compositions. It highlights some aspects of his playing: his harmonically innovative style and his compositions that are simultaneously contemporary and traditional in nature.
Having been a multi-talented child, Krzywacki spent his early days doing visual arts before turning to music in his late teens. Rock was his initial introduction to the guitar but he soon started seeking out jazz players that were closer to what he was looking for in music. Two important recors that really made an impact on him were "Coltrane Plays the Blues" and Larry Carlton's "Last Nite". He attended the Pop & Jazz Conservatory in Helsinki for formal education and started doing different kinds of gigs around 1995.
With One Step Out, Krzywacki finds a way to bring together the different influences on his ecletic style; the funky blues-based New Orleans flavor, the harmonically adventurous compositional style plus the guitar style that is shaped by his influences and molded by years of rigorous gigging and practicing.
During his playing career, Krzywacki has played with Leroy Jones and Ed Thigpen, among others. A student of music for life, Krzywacki feels that individual expression stems from knowing the history of the music and one’s relationship to it. Through his website and email, he is available for teaching and gigs.
”He's got everything, style,
a sophisticated harmonic
concept, and chops. He also
has the ability to appeal to both
very modern players and
traditionalists all at the same time.”
Brian Kelly, CD Baby review
”…a great sense of 'touch'...”
” Plays well constructed solos,
and his chordal work is top notch.”
Doc Dosco, Jazz Guitar Weekly
Kiitokset lisäyksestä ja kommentista, arvostan sitä! Pidän erityisesti siitä kuinka sulla on soitossa blues läsnä ja miten ammennat juuresta. Jazz-kitaraa nautittavimmasta päästä!
Thanks for the kind words petri. It was a difficult album to get out for many reasons. It took a long time and i feel that dated it. I actually finished it 7 years ago. I'll tell you the story over a beer sometime. Keep strumming amigo.
Yes album just mixed and mastered after the biggest series of let downs known to humanity. frustrating doesn't come close. Anyway that's all over with. Release in spring. A bit dated (i wrote the music 11 years ago) but it's good. Really glad you got your phrasing in such a conversational place. lovely. Stay in touch and let me know how your doing now and then petri. ciao.
