Bio
Pete Mac Lead singer, guitarist and songwriter of Irish based Alternative Rock/Grunge outfit PARADOX. Not your typical Singer/Songwriter Pete Mac has branched out from his band Paradox and taken his Alternative/ Grunge melodies and musical frustrations to his acoustic guitar. Paradox have been a band since 1996, formed in Cork, Ireland by brothers Pete and Mike Mac. With three albums officially recorded and released ('Corporate Pollution' in 2010, 'Sacred' in 2004 and 'Circle of Growth' in 2000 on US indie label) a few trips to the USA, shows, studios, more shows in Europe and a few solo performances in between Paradox have been kept busy. The biggest part of the bands popularity has been through word of mouth and the Internet. No big promo campaign and no Label. Every Paradox song was originally written and performed solo on acoustic guitar before being transformed by electric guitars, bass and drums. So the 'Pete Mac solo project' if you can call it that is Paradox at it's core, every song in it's original form, naked, at it's point of conception, nothing added. Voice, melody, acoustic guitar. Even the loudest, heaviest Paradox songs can be played acousticly, the melody and basic structure. When music is stripped down, everything taken away you really hear it's soul. .... .. ..PETE MAC ALBUM - "IN LIMBO" (2009).... .... 'In Limbo' is a collection of songs that date back as far as 2003, 14 songs written at different times, in different places over the space of 5 years. All music and lyrics are composed by Pete Mac. All instruments (Vocals, Guitars, Bass, Tambourine) are performed by Pete and he's also responsible for the production of the album. Tracks 5, 13 and 14 were recorded June 2005, Cork, Ireland on an analog 4-track home studio live. Track 9 is taken from Paradox album 'Sacred', recorded January 2004 at BPM Studios, Cork, Ireland. All other tracks were recorded throughout 2008 in Berlin, Germany. 'In Limbo' is an album of many moods, emotions, each song bringing across a different vibe. From the political outbursts of 'Corporate Pollution' to the atmospheric ambience of 'In Limbo', followed by the melodic waves of 'No Words' to the dischordent chops of 'Bury the World', 'In Limbo' takes a different musical direction from any previous Paradox sound. The album has recieved many positive reviews. The Grunge fanzine Minerva Corner in Portugal summed up the album as follows - "In Limbo" is a simple/ acoustic and direct album with some twists of electric guitar, nothing more added. Its natural and emotional as an intimite album should be... Nothing artificial, no masks, simply true! Other reviews added "The common thread across the diverse songs on the album seems to be the melodic smoothing of sharp edges (biting lyrics) by your spot-on harmonies between lead vocals, guitar chords, and backing vocals." .... ........Copy this code to your website to display this banner!.... -

Hey Pete. I just bought Mr. Bureaucracy on iTunes. I love it. I wrote this review and posted it on iTunes:
"So what do you get when you start with a very clever set of lyrics, and a robustly structured music foundation, and you add an addictively metered set of guitar riffs, a calculated-flashy bass line, and a rock solid drum foundation? You get a starting point for a brilliant song like "Mr. Bureaucracy." Add to that a flavorful vocal performance that very well might be Pete Mac's best work to date, and a precision-driven set of background vocals, a complex use of verses, bridge, and choruses, and a mix that harkens back to the conventions we first started hearing in Seattle in the early 90's, when grunge was first taking form, and you begin to see why this song resonates as it does.
It is a Paradox song to be sure, but it reminds us of the immense craftsmanship and discipline that made the hard-working bands like Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, and Nirvana so special. With reverence to be paid to the energetic punk scene of the 70s, and the heavy rock of the 80s for sure, it was the craftsmanship and discipline that made the short, but sweet grunge movement a very special part of rock history. And it is that very craftsmanship and discipline, with a fresh energy and creativity, that make this new offering by Paradox smoking-white-hot. Bring on the rest of the album, please!" - nuel2 years ago

Hey Pete, really cool video. Were you using Pro Tools? I've been using Logic, but Jack Endino tells me a computer is no way to record punk! ? Chad Channing sent me a way to record drums on the computer that he likes. Can't wait for the new Paradox album. I'll buy it. Do you live in Berlin? I'm trying to work out work here in Oregon for half the year, and half the year in Wiesbaden Germany (I'd love to live in Germany). I think the Rory Gallagher pub was in Cork. I didn't get to gig there.

Hey Pete, Hope you're doing well. My iPod happened to dial up your Bury the World song. I'd forgotten what a great work In Limbo is. Great stuff. BTW, I was recently in Cork. Very cool town. I liked the Rory Gallagher Pub. Good times!

PARADOX: Corporate Pollution (2011) - $9.99
'Corporate Pollution' is the third studio album to date from Irish based Alternative Rock/Grunge outfit Paradox. From the raw garage grunge sounds of 'Circle of Growth' in 2000 to the more Alternative melodic sounds of 'Sacred' in 2004 'Corporate Pollution' displays the bands most powerful sound to date. 11 songs were recorded and mixed in 9 days @ Data Recording Studios in County Kerry, Ireland, July/August 2010. Just like the previous two Paradox albums brothers Pete and Mike Mac play all instruments. Pete plays all guitars, bass, vocals while Mike plays all drums, piano and vocal harmonies. They also co/produce the album. A few of the songs appeared as acoustic tracks on the Pete Mac solo album 'In Limbo' in 2009 but were re-recorded with drums and a full band sound for this album. On average 6 electric guitars were recorded per track along with triple vocal harmonies, 2 acoustic guitars, lots of bass, piano for certain tracks, a female vocal for one track and two days of drumming. From the opening track 'Corporate Pollution' with it's churning guitar riffs and political sneers to the melodic melancholic melodies of 'Repress Excess' or the distorted confusion that is 'Mind Mud' the albums diverse mix and ever changing pace create an interesting and unique sound. The albums stand out track 'Mr. Bureaucracy' was chosen to be the first single with it's fast pulsing riffs and melodic vocals. 'Mr. Bureaucracy' is aimed towards any corporate or political establishment designed to keep society dumb, confused and poor. While the riffs are fast and grungy the melody and lyrics almost seem sarcastic. The line "Mr. Bureaucracy can you control the air I breathe" opens the track to a sudden burst of energy. The chorus refrains of "Freedom of choice not good for me" ring through to an old school grunge sounding riff that takes the song in a somewhat different direction yet repeats itself as the song ends. While the album potrays a much bigger picture than any previous Paradox endeavour the band still maintain their Alternative Rock sound remeniscent of the early 90's.

Brothers Pete and Mike Mac yet again play all instruments on Sacred. Pete plays - Vocals, Guitars and Bass while Mike plays Drums, Harmonies with the addition of Keyboards and Piano on this album. 'Sacred' is a major progression from the bands debut album 'Circle of Growth', veering away from their previous Punk Rock/Grunge sound to a more Melodic Alternative Sound that the band has been thriving to achieve since their creation.

The album was recorded December 2000 and released Spring 2002...
