Hi reader. My name's Pete Mourilyan, pronounced: more-ril-yan, it's Scottish yet I am 5th generation Australian. I live in Brisbane on the east coast of Australia. I'm a semi-professional musician and literature writer - as the title says: I play and write on a part time basis at this stage in life. That doesn't mean I'm not 100% passionate about it, and play my guts out live or in studio
I'm into plenty of bands/artists - all fundamentally rock 'n' roll - which takes on a lot of music from pop to punk.
My music career began with a band called Cage Of Joy - whom I remained loyal to for many years despite several agreed and rational splits due to family commitments. We too, were semi-professional, yet we managed to play just about every pub and many a club in our city, enjoying a relatively big cult following.
Writing music and playing guitar has been the mainstream of my life since I was 20 - I became a vocalist later on, when my confidence built. All my songs are written about personal experiences and perspectives. I try to make them universally appealing - meaning anyone can relate to them in some way. I've never been one to concentrate on others' music, prefering to create my own. Not being a technical virtuoso, I've never had formal lessons in music; I play 'by ear' with some basic theory principles to support me.
I love to write rock songs that have an edge - meaning they're often put into the categories of punk, post-punk, power-pop, alternative and hard rock. I don't care too much for sub-genres. You're entitled to make up your own mind which genre I belong in. I am always interested in colaborating with other musicans, or looking to play in other bands - particularly as a vocalist or as a guitarist. Either way, if I commit, it's 100%.
No-one on here has heard the best of my music...yet. The next lot of recordings will be done with utmost professionalism as I am a perfectionist with my music, so I'm not content with the quality of production I have on here at the moment. It sounds good to me, but can be a whole lot better. All songs were done on a shoestring budget and virtually recorded live in the studio. I had no time to redo guitar and vocal takes more than once.
My chief purpose on here is to share my music with whoever cares to listen and relate. The last thing I want to be is impersonal, so I try my hardest to communicate with everyone connected with me.
If you want me to be a commentator on your blogs (a subscriber) let me know. Everyone is welcomed to write to me either by mail or by the comments section. I have an adage I use on here for everyone: "you are as important as anyone else".
I often view who's online when I am, and try to do a collective visit to your pages - leaving a message, a photo, or both. If you find that odd - so be it. It usually only looks "odd" on the pages of those that don't receive too many comments. It's one of my ways of letting you know I'm aware of your presence and my way of acknowledging you. Not enough bands here pay the respect due to their supporters.
I often comment people's pic's - whether they ask me or not. If I haven't got anything nice to say, I don't say anything at all, so please take the comments as sincere, and my attempt as jokes as just that: jokes. There are a few I've come across that flatter themselves thinking I am obsessed with them because I comment their pic's with compliments, and often comment on their pages. That's probably because I see you're on here often - if I more than liked you - you'd definately know it.
I am not into the fashion of punk rock (or whatever) per se. The music does the talking for me - not my fashion...or lack of it.
I reply to all my friends' mail and try hard to keep in touch because i want to. If I haven't replied to anyone, it's because I'm busy or I'm technically unable to . No other reason but that. Sometimes I appear online and might be in the backyard, pulling a bindi out of my foot, or my PC is freezing and I can't reply until I get it an exorcism. If you're concerned that I haven't replied to you, please resend a message.
Text/email can easliy be misconstrued. One subtle unorthodox phrase, a comma out-of-place, an explanation mark missing, etc, can cause mayhem amoungst friends. Before texting we never used such isms "as "lol", ":p" "j/k", and so literature had to be read as black and white; no grey areas. There are no grey areas in my writing. If you're unsure what I've written, please think before you react. I don't set-out to insult you or play games. On you page or in mail I do use the modern isms, however, during blogs I tend to avoid them - I don't see why a professional writer should have to employ them.
The Internet has changed the record industry in a major way, but fundementally the below song/lyrics written by Karl Alverez tell it like I've always seen it...
Ha ha, how did you know I was just online! Yes very true, or ya could rotting in a foreign prison like Schapelle; we have nothing really to complain about in this country:)
I'm like that; cricket's on in background while I'm relaxing, on the phone, on the lappy, cooking, going in and out the door and doing all the other necessary evils, what a life! hehe /.
Lol, I was upgraded from waiting list to 'emergency' under our local public health system & had the procedure with my usual dentist. All you need is your concession and health care card!....we live in the lucky country I reckon:)
Lol. been talkin to friend about his love life a lot lately and its brought back thoughts that I 'just' got done repressing. and thoughts that I 'just' got done abandoning the emotions to.
Oh poor baby, doesn't look too bad, but you might have to hold back on the solids & kissing for awhile; looks like you were in good hands with your doc though!
the boys never disappoint, but being close to xmas & other commitments it just wasn't a possibility for me either; I'm sure they'll still have some more in store for us in the 2010;)
