Over the years Peter has developed a very unique style and sound; haunting lyrics complete with hooks and melody; a jagged to the edge guitar that feels like barbed wire across bare skin; yet Peter still conjures up heart wrenching ballads that make grown men cry. F.M.Q.B. (Friday Morning Quarter Back) is quoted as saying “Peter Blast may be the long lost cousin of the New York Dolls, guaranteed to annoy the neighbors.” New York Rock journalist Anne Leighton wrote “Peter walks a fine line of elegance and balls, his lyrical and interpretative skills stand right up with the likes of Bruce Springsteen.” Victoria Cross of the New York Waste stated that “Peter Blast blew into town on his infamous Live Dive Bar Tour and burnt this city to the ground.” Blast informed his audience “It may have only cost you ten bucks to get into this joint, but it’s gonna cost you twenty to get out.” One patron exclaimed “These Peter Blast shows were amazing. The guy’s switchblade skinny with a surprisingly strong voice. He Rocks and I’m hooked!”
Peter has performed, recorded, or been associated with such accomplished artists as: The New York Dolls, Johnny Thunders, Steve Conte, Rick Richards of the Georgia Satellites and Izzy Stradlin and the JuJu Hounds, Rick Price of the Georgia Satellites, Bob Lizik of The Brian Wilson Group, Chip ZNuff, Kenny Harck of Bad Finger & The James Young Group (Styx), Geno Martino, Ricky Parent of Alice Cooper, Tracii (L.A.) Guns, Willie Schwartz of Tom Waits and John Foggerty, Desi Rexx of the David Lee Roth Group and D’Molls, Clyde Davis of the Staple Singers, Peaches Stanton, The St. Joseph Choir, Ian “Mac” McLagan of the Small Faces, The Bump Band, Faces and the New Barbarians (Mac’s also toured and recorded with The Rolling Stones) and Michael Santoro. In addition, Peter’s been associated with ex-members of Guns-N-Roses, Hanoi Rocks, the Dead Boys, Canned Heat, Stevie Nicks, Spirit, Buddy Miles (Band of Gypsies), Earth Wind and Fire, The KoKo Taylor Band and “Wicked” Wilson Pickett…
“Peter Blast” performed his first Live performance on New Years Eve 1967. A mid-block Southside Chicago tavern, Peter performed the popular songs of the day. In those early hours of January 1st, 1968 Peter collected his earnings and never looked back. He’s been called “A Rock-N-Roll Survivor that deserves the Purple Heart.” Blast has penned material for the acclaimed cult film “Henry, Portrait of a Serial Killer” and his group “Degeneration” is documented as the first Punk Rock Group to perform the fabulous Las Vegas strip. Peter then returned to the Midwest and focused on Live dates with the group “Blast Factory” until landing a contract with Circumstantial / Stoney Records with the release of “junebug, Ticket to Hell” (RED Distribution). What was to follow were three Peter Blast solo releases: “This Side of Shang-hi” “Explode” and the Live EP “Tracks.” Peter’s material has been mixed by the likes of “Johnny K” (producer of Disturbed) and “Phil Bonnano” (Cheap Trick and Survivor’s “Eye of the Tiger” for the film Rocky). Now with four releases under Peter’s belt, Poptown Records in New York has now released “Pure Organic Junk” (An Anthology), Peter’s fifth. Blast has currently finished his number six “A Plush Horse…with a Monkey on a String” scheduled to be released in the summer of 2008. Peter’s New CD “A Plush Horse…with a Monkey on a String” is a thirteen song CD including bonus tracks of all New Blast material. Peter has managed to blend together Rock, Punk, Blues, Spiritual, and Psychedelic, all rolled up into one neat little package with a huge impact! Peter Blast like you've never heard before, a timeless legacy with new beginnings and that’s a Fact!

ROCK REPORT.be by KVK (October 2008) You just got to love this mister Blast. If not for the disarming honesty in his songs then for his never-ending persistence in doing what he does best and that’s rocking like the last 35 years never happened. In Blast’s world New York is still the harmonious cultural center of the world and everybody still calls each other ‘cats’. And he may be right for all I care, I like to wallow myself in Peter Blast’s world for an hour if all else fails and the world & its inhabitants have gotten my mood down again. In his world the damsels are still in distress, lying around in the grass watching butterflies and Chinese dragonflies is not frowned upon & consulting crystal balls is considered hip. What is there not to like? His catchy, mellowed-out version of (glam) rock is considered awesome in my book and based upon the amount of help he got from his friends, I’m not standing all by myself with this opinion. His accomplices are Steve Conte of New York Dolls-fame, Chip Z’Nuff of Enuff Z’Nuff together with Bob Lizik (Brian Wilson Group), Dan Curry, R.P. Michaels and Top Cat. This is Blast’s first ‘all-new’ record: it sounds rough, very vintage & basically under-produced but as far as I am concerned it comes recommended. And that goes for everything the man has come up with so far.**********************************************************************************************************************************************
Thoughts from the Keith Shrine (Blue Lena - US Editor of the Rolling Stones Fanzine "Stones Planet") Review: Peter Blast "A Plush Horse...with a Monkey on a String" (August 2008) One thing you can't do is pigeonhole Peter's work, which I am sure is how he likes it. It's all rock n' roll as he says, but he covers the gamut of rock, punk, glam, blues, a bit of country, you name it, and it's all done with finesse. His newest is no exception and is an eclectic collection of all the above featuring true rockers, along with ballads and instrumentals. Peter has a very unique voice and strong vocals, laced with a touch of cigarettes and whiskey that all Keith Richards fans should appreciate. Mr. Richards and the Stones are of course, one of Peter's many musical influences. His lyrics are vivid, well thought out and paint pictures & stories. He creates some haunting melodies and some voracious jams. Often the cd requires quite a few listens until one can fully appreciate each track because each time you listen, you will hear something new. This 13 track cd features guest performers including guitarist Steve Conte of the New York Dolls on the fabulous tribute to Johnny Thunders "Dead or Alive". Other guests include Brian Wilson's 5 string bassist Bob Lizik, Chicago blues pianist R.P.Michaels, Chip Znuff of the glam metal Enuff Z'nuff & Road Burners drummer Dan Curry. It's hard to pick a favorite on this cd, but I'd have to say I am loving the beautiful "Chinese Dragonflies"..."they're so much bigger when you see 'em live" and secondly the opening track "HURT" really rocks with a touch of Richards/Wood guitar interplay and the opening line "Is your religion becoming taboo?". But I would be remiss not to mention the clever & catchy "Butterflies & Damsels in Distress", "My Right Arm, Wrong Vain" about a voodoo doll, and the middle eastern melodic "If I Only Had A Crystal Ball". There's also the quirky analogy to Peter's life "Roller Coasters and Carousels", the track about all those trips he made "down the coast to Old Mexico" called "Lay Down Here", an instrumental that is just like the title states "Crashing Through Twilight" and then the subtle & floating instrumental "Silhouettes in the Sun" which sounds like it could be part of a movie soundtrack. The re-worked and raunchier "The Last Word (number 2)" kicks it up a notch from when it appeared in a more ballad-like form on his cd "Explode". To top it off you get 2 great bonus tracks from his last cd "Pure Organic Junk", also not to be missed. SoundCheck-Magazine (U.K. June 2008) the First Review of the New Peter Blast CD "A Plush Horse...with a Monkey on a String": Peter Blast dazzles. Peter Blast shines. Peter Blast rocks...in fact Peter Blast makes me sick! How can one person be so talented?
I tell ya, it’s just unfair! He has a habit of writing some of the most catchy, beautiful and dream-tastic music, with just enough rock to make it all roll. This latest release doesn’t deviate one bit from this winning formula and in fact, improves it slightly!! I love it!
He’s like a fine Barolo, aged nicely and well-rounded as a performer. On this disc, he drafted in the assistance of some other equally talented friends, Bob Lizik [Brian Wilson Group] and Steve Conte [ New York Dolls] being two.
The show gets itself on the road with the opening track ‘Hurt’, an upbeat rocker, with shades of the guitar styles of Wood and Richards thrown in for good measure. This is a good sign, the production is right on the money, Blast’s own work! Kudos!!
Next up is the tribute to Johnny Thunders. Blast drafted in Steve Conte for this one,‘Dead Or Alive’ Thunders’ classic from 1978.
Adding Conte into the fray is a masterstroke of genius, the guitar work of these two complement each other perfectly, and the use of the classic combination of a P90, screaming through a Fender Twin, manages to reproduce Johnny’s sound. It’s not a ‘Copy Cat’ though, this is a complete re-working of an old friends work. It rocks! Get the volume up to eleven for this one!!
There is extensive use of slide, acoustic and percussion throughout the collection of beautifully crafted songs on this disc, it’s a pure joy to listen to! ‘If Only I Had A Crystal Ball’ is quite psychedelic in its approach and breaks up the action just long enough and then the moving ‘Butterflies & Damsels In Distress’ kicks in. Man, this cat can write a song! With its “Fly Away” choruses and backwards e-bowed guitar work in the shadows, it’s a tear jerker for sure!
The next three songs show what a diverse writing style Blast has, with the lovely ‘Roller Coasters & Carousels’, ‘Lay Down Here’ and the wonderful ‘Chinese Dragonflies’ with its beautiful guitar solo, and almost ‘Waltz-like’ timing.
Has Lou Reed walked in on the action? The wonderful piece of work known as ‘Crashing Through Twilight’ could feature on any of Reeds’ later albums, with its massively overdriven, feed-back and louder than loud guitar blitz. He’s testing us…making sure he has your attention right before we’re treated to the best song on the CD, ‘My Right Arm, Wrong Vain’…. ”The Gypsy Woman Got It All Wrong” goes the lyric amongst a sea of acoustic and low-key electric guitar work. ‘The Last Word number 2’ steps up the action one more time. This is a killer track which will surely become a major crowd pleaser.
There is a buzz about this CD, Blast has crafted something unique here….”every dog gotta have it’s day” well surely soon, Blast will get the recognition he so rightly deserves!! Did I mention the best track on the disc already? Oh, no, I’ve had to change my mind again…’cos there’s something better than the last one and it’s captured the feeling beautifully...’A Silhouette In The Sun’ is a most pleasing instrumental piece and contains some gorgeous guitar work. How do you get a sound like that? This guy has got it all wrapped up in a perfect package! Not only is he a killer musician, he’s a lovely family guy too!
Blast seals the deal with the inclusion of a coupla old ones, ‘On A Derailed Train’ and ‘I Ain’t Cursed’ which have both been featured here before, but still don’t fail you…they’re pure, guitar blasting rockers… ’He ain’t cursed, poisoned or condemned y’know!’
Do yourselves a favour, get a copy of this CD right now, you know it makes sense!
Black Angel Promotions (Georgia, USA 2007) Pure Organic Junk Review:
Peter Blast has been rocking out with his cock out since 1977 when he fronted the Punk band Degeneration. Since then he's been in Blast Factory, Junebug and he's released solo efforts on top of a relentless touring schedule! What more could you ask for? Blast is the epitome of what a Rock N' Roll gypsy is supposed to be, looks included. Although Blast has never gained "mainstream success", he's still kept it going and those who know him get it and that's all that matters. Personally, I haven't been exposed to much of his material but what I've had the chance of sampling over the years has simply been stellar. The latest and greatest from Blast is entitled Pure Organic Junk and is an anthology of his previous works as well as a few unreleased tunes and one or two new ones.
I'd hate to mislead you all into thinking Blast's music is Hardcore Punk because it's not and no, that's not a bad thing - actually, it's quite good. Very few Hardcore Punk bands from the Seventies exist today due to all the binging and crazy shit that went on back in the day. Blast's music is a very sincere form of Glam/Punk/Rock reminiscent of Bobby Steele's Undead, The New York Dolls, The Stones and eighties band, The Zeros. Some call it bubblegum music, I call it a religious experience to be treasured. There are so many standouts on this disc, it's impossible to speak on them all. The first and my personal favorite off the disc is a ballad entitled "Place The Blame On Me". While this tune could have been released on any Power Ballad compilation to come out of the eighties, it also boasts quite a few Country/Slide licks, coupled with some extravagant key-work that'll make any good ole boy tip his hat. The lyrical content is heartwrenching and sadly I've walked a mile to hell and back in them shoes and it's no fun. The next tune to leave a lasting impression is "And Just For You Too". Again, we have another ballad, this time the lyrics are a little easier on the ole ticker. The arrangement of this tune features an elegant string section complete with ear-shattering violin work. For those of you who followed Blast way back when, we have a raucous, unreleased version of "Orange Sunshine", as well as a deeply blues-infested take on "It's A Cruel World". And what's an anthology without the tunes "Heaven Only Knows" and "As Sharp As A Knife".
If you've been living under a rock for the past twenty-five years and missed out on Peter Blast and the bands he's been a part of this is a great way to get a good headstart on catching up. Trust me when I say, you really don't wanna miss out anymore on Blast, all of the tracks presented here are nothing short of amazing!
Hey, Peter:) How the things are going? Here is too hot! We've uploaded a new song ("She Loves to Roll") from our live show yesterday. Check it out and let us know what you think of it!
