Alas for Desmond Dekker. 007 was one of the best non-Beatles singles ever.
A random list of tracks I like apart from the Beatles: not a top 10
Season of the Witch -- Julie Driscoll & Brian Auger
007 -- Desmond Dekker and the Aces
Barabajagl -- Donovan & the Jeff Beck Group
Wooden Ships -- Crosby, Stills & Nash
Cactus Tree -- Joni Mitchell
I'll Keep It With Mine -- Fairport Convention
Something in the Air -- Thunderclap Newman
The Dean and I -- 10cc
My Pink Half of the Drainpipe -- Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band
Aloneagainor -- Love
For some of my own songs, try the videos on
www.youtube.com and search for Peter Buckley Hill .
There are CDs for sale, but I'm not going in to that. | | Movies | Hate them. Have seen about 12 in my life. What I probably hate most about them is the music that tells you what to think, and the way the performer's name is supposed to outweigh any merit the film itself may have. And the gratuitous shocking. There may be some good ones somewhere, but I can't be arsed looking for them. | | Television | "We only have it for the news", as they used to say in my two-channel childhood. And if you believe that, you'll believe I'm not a sad old man who videos ten-year-old Simpsons episodes from Channel 4. And Family Guy. And hates himself for not being better at the letters game on Countdown (fine on the numbers, of course). Fawlty Towers is vastly overrated and a backward step for Cleese after the progress of Python. Allo Allo is a work of true British genius and about the only sitcom I like, apart from Paris, Father Ted and Chance in a Million. | | Books | Anything that can be enacted using stuffed sheep. | | Heroes | The sailor on the Players packet. |

About me:
Pathetic old man guilty of the ultimate British sin: trying to be funny.
All right. The boast bits: Founder of the Free Fringe at Edinburgh, and still (despite others trying to stab me in the back) running it. Winner of Tap Water Award 2006; winner of Three Weeks Editors' Choice Award 2006; winner of Chortle awards 2007 for Innovation and for Best Off-Stage Contribution. Six CDs recorded and available through www.buckers.co.uk.

Who I'd like to meet:
Comedians. The Man With The Cigar who says "c'mere son, I'm gonna make you a star". (The dream doesn't die with age). People who don't lie to Time Out magazine. Audience friends from Edinburgh, Cambridge and elsewhere.
