About Peter Busher And The Lone Rangers
Entering Perths Mustang Bar on a Sunday night you could be forgiven for momentarily contemplating the possibility that you've stepped into a kind of parallel universe. It's like any other gig you've been to yet simultaneously it's unlike anything you've ever experienced. Peter Busher And The Lone Rangers are plying their trade. The place is packed with young, old and those in between. Most are dancing. Leaning against the bar two men are dressed as nuns. No one has asked why and they have'nt proffered an explanation. A spiky haired youth with multiple body piercing jives across a dance floor packed with middle aged rockers who, sporting a mighty fine line in threads, are busting dance moves you'd previously thought confined to the realm of movie musicals. To the left of stage a young hippie girl sways from side to side enraptured, she's doing that arms flaying, elaborate hand movement dance favoured by those of the cheesecloth persuasion. To the right of stage a well-dressed middle-aged woman betrays her youth; she's doing the same dance. This is an eclectic mix. As disparate a group as you could imagine united by one fact. They love the band. Peter Busher And The Lone Rangers have performed at the Mustang Bar in front of a packed house every Sunday for the last five years. Performing a great blend of Peter Busher originals and bar room country classics to a diverse crowd who continually come back for more, they have honed a unique musical beast whose appeal cuts across all demographics. There are many musical reference points but they are at their core a great live band. Now that energy and chemistry has been captured on a double CD entitled Peter Busher And The Lone Rangers Live At The Mustang Bar and its an instant classic. The 40 track double CD clocking in at just under two and a half hours contains acclaimed Busher originals Fathers Footsteps, All I Need and Available Space along with newer previously unrecorded work, plus a virtual history of bar room country classics featuring the bands impeccable interpretation of songs by Buck Owens, Hank Williams, Willie Nelson, George Jones and many more. "Live At The Mustang Bar" the CD showcases the talent of Busher and the musical abilities of his band; John Short (Guitar), Phil Morgan (Bass), Peter Stone (Keyboards) and Brian Booy (Drums) and delivers an extraordinary performance of sustained excellence thats impossible to ignore. Drawing upon the musical influences of his childhood and over 25 years of experience Busher has fashioned something unique on the Australian musical landscape. He won a Golden Guitar in 2002 for his collaboration with the Feral Swing Katz and has previously released two solo CDs; Fathers Footsteps recorded in 1995 and Beer Today, Gone Tomorrow, recorded in Austin, Texas in 2000. He was the major songwriter and vocalist of acclaimed country band Dude Ranch and a founding member of The Never Never, the latter considered one of Australias finest unsigned power-pop bands of the 80s. An impressive resume to be sure but as it turns out, just a warm-up for the main game. The most cursory listen to their new CD will attest that Peter Busher And The Lone Rangers are the real deal.
