Peter Byrom-Smith: guitarist/composer.
I was born and educated in York and have been a professional guitarist and composer all my working life. My career has taken me on many successful trips throughout the UK, Europe and the U.S.A; where my music has been performed, recorded and broadcast.
I have worked in the many diverse fields of music and have been a organist/choir master, conductor and musical director for theatre as well as my work as a solo guitarist and composer. I have taught, lectured, run workshops and continue to do so; regularly performing my own work amongst my varied repertoire.
I work on regular commissions for new music; everything from solo and chamber music to full orchestral scores and was privileged to have worked as composer in residence to an orchestra in the Netherlands. I have performed in venues of varied size and am equally at home playing in a parish church in the English countryside, as well as playing to 2,000 people at the Philharmonic Hall in Liverpool.
My influences are varied and include Elgar, Neil Young, Gershwin and Segovia. I have been fortunate to have worked with many rock, jazz and classical musicians whose influences have helped me to develop my own individual style of writing and interpretation of the music of others. Working with a variety of musicians continues to be an inspiring influence in my life and work.
My first c.d. “ Connections “ was well received in Europe and the UK and I have continued this success with my recent album “ Autumn Leaves” which gave me the chance to record music by some of my favourite composers including Kern, Gershwin and Lennon and McCartney in my own inimitable style.
