"Peter Case has always been one of my absolute favorite songwriters but his new, intimate and honest CD should make him one of everyone's favorite songwriters. Its mix of folk, blues, love, humor, tragedy, morality and compassion make Let Us Now Praise Sleepy John a very welcome survival guide for these crazy times we live in." - Dave Alvin (The Blasters, X, The Knitters)
One of best new releases of 2007 - Andy Whitman, Paste

"AS FAR AS YOU CAN GET WITHOUT A PASSPORT"
My book is out now. It's a memoir of my first month in California, when I was a teenager, playing music and living on the street, and having various adventures with fugitives, rounders, guardian angels, and other mad characters of the early 70's. This period was the last gasp of the sixties, and the time of the conception of the new punk culture. Some people have compared it to Dylan's Chronicles, but really, it's the anti-chronicles: Dylan went East and made it to the top, I came West and went straight to the bottom. John Doe has written an introduction to the book, which is the first part of a work in progress, and is published by everthemore books in Atlanta.
I hope you'll check it out, and if you've enjoyed the blogs at myspace/petercase or at petercase.com, I think you'll be interested in this, and hope you'll support it.

To those who may not have heard, our dear brother Dickie Peterson (OF BLUE CHEER) has passed away from what I understand was liver cancer or complication there of. He left us 10-12-09 in Germany at at 5:00am.
Dickie will be greatly missed by many. He told me that he didn't have "fans" he had "friends" and I know he valued each and every one of them. From the beginning Dickie chose his own path through this journey we call life paving the way for those who dared to follow. Dickie was not just a pioneer in Rock & Roll music but also a LEADER that will continue to guide musicians and music lovers for ever.
I know he wouldn't want us to be sad and I know he's up there turning the Angel's harps up to "11"! Blow the Golden Gates off the joint Dickie!
Dig this: I went home to Louisville to visit family and play bluegrass last week. I am walking down Bardstown Road in the hip Highlands area you like so much. I pop into Ear-X-Tacy Records and browse. I come around a corner and there on the wall of this fine shop I see hanging...wait for it...here it comes...a Nerves t-shirt!
At first I think it must be another Nerves but nope, 'tis you, Jack, Paul, George and Ringo right there staring at me. I was so amazed I took it to the counter and asked if this was a popular band around Louisville. The two clerks just looked at me funnily. Anyway I bought it and am proudly wearing it now on this Saturday in London. First Suzi Shaw sends me a Nerves CD reissue and then I get this groovy t-shirt. Life is so surprising sometimes.
Best to you and yours, Sid Griffin (54 years old yesterday, ouch!)

Coming up, don't miss it!--The Doctress will host some new talent LIVE in the studio next Thursday where she will showcase singer/songwriter/guitarist Demetri Politis, whose quirky pop songs have been compared to Jonathan Richman, Lou Reed, and Weezer. His songs are sometimes autobiographical, but usually revolve around vignettes of twisted people. They have caused an open mic host to deem him a "troubled young man" and a homeless person to yell at him while he was busking on the Santa Monica Promenade. Come listen and give some support to a fine musician!
