   About Peter Derek

THESE SONGS ARE DEMO RECORDINGS, NOT YET PRODUCED. THE FINAL RECORDINGS WILL BE COMPLETED SOON.

COPYRIGHT FOR ALL SONGS. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED

Writing, arranging, and recording all his own songs and performing and playing each instrument himself, Peter Derek makes his presence known with a unique, creative, and powerful sound all his own. Using his passionate and melodic voice along with grand, sing along anthems of raw defiance, rebellion, and sexuality, Peter's music invokes a wide screen cinematic landscape that is both primal and sophisticated.

Born in Houston to rough and humble beginnings and writing and performing since the age of fifteen, he has honed and crafted his songwriting while playing the club circuit from Texas and Louisiana to New York (where he lived for several years.) With a recent move across country and the completion of his EP "Hedonist", he is continuing to write and record new songs in hopes to "raise some hell and shake things up a bit" from his new base in L.A.

"In my opinion, songs are given, not made. They can never be forced. You must seduce the muse in order to receive her secrets. The creative process itself is a tumultuous entity. If it were to take a human form, it would be abusive. It tears at you, tugs, calls for you at the oddest times. Demanding your undivided attention. A river dragging you in with the force of it's undertow. Where ever it leads, it is wise to follow. It must be expelled from within if we are to maintain our sanity. Many of the great writers, musicians, architects, etc., traded in their reason to stay connected to it's sound. A ceaseless howling they readily received. Removing any obstacles, like rationality, that could block it's signal. Not even the safety of sleep is immune to it. You must rise when it asks and prepare to take dictation. You are never the bedrock from which ideas flow, simply the vehicle for which it chooses to communicate. Only the messenger, never the maestro. Take it all in and put it all down."

A little joke for Saturday:)

Little Johnny sees his mother walk out of the shower and sees her vagina.

He asks her what it is and she embarassed replies, "Oh, that's mommy's black sponge."

A few days later, Johnny spills a glass of milk on the floor and says, "Mommy, I need your black sponge to mop up the milk!"

She replies, "I lost it, honey."

A couple of days later, he comes running up to her and says, "Mommy, I found your black sponge!" Mystified, she says, "Where, honey?"

Little Johnny says, "It's over at Mrs. Johnson's house, and Daddy's washing his face in it!"

Life is too precious, too important, too short for quick fixes that in the end fix nothing and from which we learn nothing except that we have wasted our time trying to find happiness in short cuts. The only way to real fulfillment is to look inside see what is there, then look outside and see what difference we can make with what we have to offer - whether we knew we had it in us, or whether it was something we grew within us over the coldest, most seemingly dormant, or darkest times, in order to reap the richest harvest of all.

Two men were in prison. One looked down to the mud in despair; the other looked up to the stars in hope.

The true test of character is not how much we know how to do, but how we behave when we don't know what to do.

All men and women are born, live, suffer and die; what distinguishes us one from another is our dreams, whether they be dreams about worldly or unworldly things, and what we do to make them come about... We do not choose to be born. We do not choose our parents. We do not choose our historical epoch, the country of our birth, or the immediate circumstances of our upbringing. We do not, most of us, choose to die; nor do we choose the time and conditions of our death. But within this realm of choicelessness, we do choose how we live.

We need to teach the next generation of children from day one that they are responsible for their lives. Mankind's greatest gift, also its greatest curse, is that we have free choice. We can make our choices built from love or from fear.

gentle hugs, Lei
