"While listening to Secret Oasis performed so masterfully by Peter Edwards, you are transported to another peaceful place. I use this CD to sit back, relax and escape from the real world. Peter has discovered how to use his piano to transmit peace." - Rudy Perez, 2005 Billboard Awards Latin Producer Of The Year, and 2005 ASCAP Latin Songwriter of the Year
Peter's Biography
Peter Edward Firk (aka. Peter Edwards) was born in the
picturesque country town of Wallingford, England, just 50
miles northeast of the mystical Stonehenge. While still living in the British Isles, Peter began classical piano lessons at six years old.
At eight, he moved with his family to a hillside overlooking New
Haven, CT. His childhood and upbringing were unique. His father,
creator of the website Physics for Free, is the former Chairman of the Physics Dept. at Yale
University. His mother, who took on the spiritual name of Padma
(which means Lotus) is a recently retired Integral Yoga teacher, a
disciple of Sri Swami Satchidananda, and a vegetarian.
In his teens, Peter began playing the electric piano and organ in rock and blues bands, and went on to explore electric jazz improvisation with singer/composer/guitarist Michael Gregory and others. At seventeen, Peter began performing solo piano compositions to audiences throughout southern New England.
In his twenties, his style evolved to new realms when co-founding
the progressive New England-based New Music International Cultural
Ensemble with master Afro-Caribbean percussionist and composer
Michael Mills. Many world-class musicians performed with this
innovative band including Henny Alvarez, Paul Mills, Michael
Rubinowitz and Marion Meadows.
Now in the 21st century, Peter has been
integrating his natural lifestyle and meditation experiences more
deeply into his music. His current favorite musicians include Shimshai, John Astin, George
Tortorelli, Snatam Kaur, Deva Premal, and Yanni ... although he still enjoys listening to european and American folk music, soft classical, pop, creative world beat, and a variety of musical genres from around the globe.
Peter's music is a reflection of his connection to our Mother
Earth...the warm sun, air and beautiful natural surroundings. Peter's favorite activities include water and juice fasting for inner purification, eating a raw food vegetarian diet, bicycling through forest trails and along quiet country roads, sharing his new age perspective at his websites Raw Food Planet, the Solar Power Directory, Yoga Studios USA, and The Vegetarian Travel Guide, moonlit walks on the beach, silent meditation, reading ancient Essene scriptures, chanting devotional songs, playing
acoustic piano, and spending time alone with the universe and with
truth seeking friends.
With months of cooperation and guidance from his brother and music producer John Richards, both in and out of the studio, decades of performing and composing have now culminated in Peter's amazing debut acoustic piano album, 'Secret Oasis'.
Some of Peter's past performances include...
WPKN-TV, WTNH-TV, WGBH-TV (Public Television), Whole Life Expo, Brian Alden Jazz Festival, WYBC Radio, "Vibrations", The Shubert Performance Art Center, Niantic
State Prison, Toad's Place, The Foundry Jazz Cafe, Common Ground
