   About Peter James

Too Numb live at Cafe Du Nord, San Francisco
Visit us at YouTube

San Francisco-based British singer-songwriter Peter James composes lush, cinematic folk music. Dramatic, passionate and reflective, Peter's songs stimulate imagery and emotion.

Drawing inspiration from David Sylvian, Steve Reich, Philip Glass, and Everything But The Girl, Peter's sound has been characterized as a mix of Elliot Smith, Simon & Garfunkel, Morrissey, and Lloyd Cole.

Supporting Peter's voice is the unique instrumentation of 10 & 8 string guitar, Chapman Stick, electric upright bass, and fretless guitar. The compositions are intricate and daring, combining melodic patterns with irresistible hooks.

Guitar Player Magazine - Rants and Raves

"This is gentle but subtly energetic music, full of gorgeous instrumental interplay and memorable vocal melodies - and upon first listen, it is easy to miss the intricacies of the interlocking guitars, the delicate yet effective percussive touches, and single-line textural elements that blend seamlessly into a shimmering harmonic whole." -Barry Cleveland

Guitar One Magazine - Opening Axe

"Sophisticated... complex ballads with an arty sensitivity that recalls the likes of Bryan Ferry and David Sylvian."-Mac Randall

Guitar Nine - The Undiscovered

"Garnering a lot of attention among the mainstream, guitar-oriented press... the skill of the musicians and their textural use of many stringed instruments is anything but run-of-the-mill, and will rightly command the enlightened listener's attention... James certainly has one of the best CDs you could ask for."

Online Rock

“...a soothing acoustical soundscape ...reminiscent of the stellar work of the late Michael Hedges …a lush affair of fine musicianship and evocative lyrics served by a sincere voice. (Best listened to) from a beachfront deck at sunset with a glass of wine in hand and romance in the air.” -Roland Goity

Hey!

Wanted to let you know about the latest Indie Elf blog, “Publicity Help Going CHEAP!” WARNING: This particular blog will probably only be of interest to indie musicians who need some good press and don’t have a lot of extra money.

But everyone else can come take a look at the cartoon versions of me, Nomad and Damien. Funny!!
