Born in Helsinki, Finland to the family of the late great Bulgarian drummer Peter Slavov Sr, Peter (Petar) Slavov started playing bass when he was twelve. While studying classical music, Peter attempted jazz and soon became the busiest bassist on the scene in Bulgaria, playing at festivals, clubs, concerts, and on radio and TV with the country’s finest musicians. He toured Europe extensively during that period.
In 1998 Peter received a scholarship from Berklee College of Music, and in 1999 moved to Boston to attend Berklee.
Since moving to the United States, Peter Slavov has performed and/or recorded with world-renowned artists, such as
Danilo Perez, George Garzone, Joe Lovano, David Sanchez, Darren Barrett, Kevin Mahogany, Greg Osby, Jane Bunnett & The Spirits of Havana, Donald Harrison, Jamey Haddad, Mark Turner, Paquito D'Rivera, Sam Yahel, Luciana Souza, Jason Moran, Eric Harland, Aaron Goldberg, Peter Bernstein, Stefon Harris, Jesus Diaz, Pedro Martinez, Richie Flores, Chris Cheek, Simon Shaheen,Dave Samuels, Sophie Milman and Robin McKelle.
Peter has performed at some of the most prestigious venues and festivals around the world: The Monterey Jazz Festival, North Sea Jazz Festival, Jazz a Juan(Antibes), Olympia(Paris), Massey Hall (Toronto), La Cigale(Paris), Paris Jazz Festival, Montreal Jazz Festival, Bataclan(Paris), MGM Grand (Las Vegas), Jazz in Marciac,Dubai Jazz Festival, Istanbul Jazz Festival, Skopje Jazz Festival, Boston Globe Jazz Festival, Wichita Jazz Festival, Burligton Jazz Festival, The Blue Note(New York), The Blue Note(Milan), The Jazz Bakery, Yoshi's, The Dakota, Folley Theather, Scullers, Regatta Bar, Joe's Pub, Sweet Rhythm, The Jazz Standard, Small's, Fat Cat, Cornelia Street Cafe, Calle 54(Madrid), Bimhuis(Amsterdam), Moods am Schifbau(Zurich), Widder Bar(Zurich), A Trane(Berlin) and the legendary Minton's Playhouse in Harlem.
He has been featured on Fox 5 NY, WGBH-NPR, CBC(Canada), PBS, TF1(France), Bulgarian National Television and the Bulgarian National Radio.
As the house bassist at historic Wally’s Café in Boston, Peter has accompanied Wynton Marsalis and Roy Hargrove.
Peter Slavov currently resides in New York City.
