Who the Hell is Pete?
That's a good question. Who is Pete? Well, Pete is many things. Pete is the piano players. Pete is the doorstaff, waitstaff, and bartenders. Pete is Austin's hardwood floors. Pete is the energy bristling in each of our locations. But most importantly, Pete is you. Yeah, you. At Pete's Dueling Piano Bar, you are the entertainment. It's your singing and laughing and clapping and dancing that causes that infectious excitement inside everyone each night, and keeps you coming back time and again for more celebration. That is Pete.
Dueling Piano Bar is known for singing loud and proud across the great state of Texas. What you may not know is that at its inception in 1992, it wasn't dueling at all. It began on Austin's historic 6th Street as a one man show, spearheaded by Steve Green, and it went by the name of Pete's Peanut Bar & Piano Emporium. The show's popularity helped the bar grow for 6 strong years, at which point us Texans decided we needed a duel!
April 4, 1998: The Duel in Austin
Two is better than one, right? Right. So we brought in not one, but three more piano players to perform each night on two facing baby grand pianos. It all began with these four pianists: Arch Hooks, Keith Kelly, Mike Squillace, and David Poindexter. This team brought a rock and roll atmosphere to the bar, and zinged the crowds together for nearly a year before other piano players began to enter the rotation. Although we changed the name at this point to Pete's Dueling Piano Bar, and have since said goodbye to the tasty barrels of peanuts, the sweet memory of the scattered shells still remains.
May 2001: Addison, TX
Pete's Dueling Piano Bar was becoming so popular in Austin that the obvious thing to do was to share the excitement with some other folks. So we sprouted one up in Addison, TX, a suburb of the lively city of Dallas. Since opening, Dallas officials have been getting reports of citizens singing loud and proud throughout town.
August 2004: Fort Worth, TX
That's right, another has been born! You can now get blue in the face having a rock n' roll, sing-along, great time in Fort Worth, Texas!
