Sounds Like
I hope to sound like myself...I pattern my music after no particular band or style. I lable it "Progressive Rock" simply for a convenient classification...although lately I have found myself very much inspired by guitarist Nels Cline
--- Although he likes to portray himself as "ageless", informed sources tell us that by the late 60s Pete was already a fixture in the Baltimore music scene. He was a member of several blues and rock bands associated with the now-legendary Bluesette club on Charles St., and for a time lived above the club.
From there he traveled up and down the East Coast as lead singer/lead guitarist for the highly regarded horn band "Bum..s Honor". Later he played (and shared a house) with a young bass player who would later relocate to California and re-invent himself as John Doe, one of the founding members of the highly influential band "X". He also appeared on 2 recordings by the legendary Baltimore band "OHO", having played with these musicians earlier at the Bluesette. He also was one of the founding members of the infamous "Weazles". Still later, Pete played chemically augmented experimental fusion music in percussionist Clyde Johnson..s Glen Burnie basement.
The early 70's found Pete cutting back on musical ventures and pursuing more secure modes of employment, and his daughter Lisa, now a lovely young lady living in Clearwater Florida, was born in 1972.
Rumor has it that later he spent many years deep within the bowels of Baltimore area federal buildings where he was repeatedly subjected to potentially mind-altering experiments. There he also met the love of his life, Brenda, who patiently debriefed him and facilitated his reentry into conventional society. She also encouraged him to reinvest in musical equipment, which has become an on going process in itself. In 2003 he responded to a flyer in Coffey..s Music from a band seeking a lead guitarist. Passing the audition, he proceeded to quietly insinuate himself into the re-incarnation of the popular band "Bone Dri" - a venture that has now been active for 6 years, despite differences in opinion about music, committment, and life.
Pete..s favorite musicians and bands include: Larry Coryell, Scott Henderson, John Mclaughlin, Iggy Pop, Robert Cray, Robben Ford, Kings X, Govt Mule, Clutch, Thelonius Monk, Melvin Taylor, Jef Lee Johnson, Smokin' Joe Kubeck Band, Dream Theatre, Captain Beefheart, Mark Stanley, Allan Holdsworth, Scot McGill, Alex Machacek, John Doe, Magic Slim, Randell Bramlett, John Scofield, Nels Cline, Henry Kaiser, Christy Doran, Ronald Shannon Jackson, The Flower Kings, Spock's Beard/Neal Morse, "all the blues guys", and a million others, and he describes his guitar goal as "hopefully evolving towards melody and sophistication". Some "desert island CDs" for Pete would be Electric Flag "Long Time Comin", Edgar Winter's "Entrance" and "Edgar Wimter's White Trash", Yardbirds "Over Under Sideways Down", Jackson Browne's "Late for the Sky", Mahavishnu's "The Inner Mounting Flame", everthing by "Spirit" up to and including "Dr Sardonicus", Country Joe & Fish "Electric Music for the Mind and Body", Sly Stones' "There's a Riot Goin' .. Bathing @ Baxter's" by the Airplane, the 1st 2 Youngbloods albums, ""Scenes from a Memory" by Dream Theatre, as well as pretty much the entire catalogues of the artists mentioned at the beginning of this paragraph. Add to that many recordings by the great jazz sax players (too many to mention) etc and so on. It would have to be a big island!!
In addition to "Bone Dri", Pete is a member of the classic rock band "Thursday..s Reign" (www.thursdaysreign.com), an occasional member of the reconstituted "Urch Perch"), the Uncertain Things, and performs and records his own compositions in his basement studio.
Pete waxes eloquently on the merits of Sperzel locking tuners - "they are amazing" as well as PRS 513, Carvin, Brian Moore and Ibanez Artist guitars and never leaves home without his Boss GT-6 pedal. His philosophy is, "Vintage guitars are overrated, dogs do rule (at least mine does), and I will never tune to Eb for anybody. "
He records his sometimes ridiculous original material using no other musicians (no one to disagree with) and writes and plays this material as it is conceived, with no commercial considerations.
