Sounds Like
Your grandparents telling stories. The yip-yap of a puppy who just peed as a result of overwhelming excitement. The 13th floor of a 1920s tenement house.
I've been playing the accordion (a 1960s Gretsch La Tosca) for about eight years, a little more seriously the past two years.
The old squeeze box was given to me by my grandfather, Edward Pilch, who received it as a gift from his two daughters and played it for more than three decades before injuring his shoulder. My "Dziadzi," who is now 92 and healthy as a horse, still plays the harmonica and is a major influence on my music.
I hooked up with an extremely talented guitarist/singer/songwriter named John Davidson (plays harmonica, too) and a mind-blowing percussionist named Matt Guza (washboard, bones, dulcimer, mouth harp, etc., etc.) in the summer of 2006. We call ourselves "The New Time" and have a common bond of all things old-timey.
I'm currently under the tutleage of Robert Cerminara.
A former newspaperman, I now work for a non-profit and live in Manayunk.
