Petter & The Pix release their debut album, ‘Easily Tricked’, a seamless collection of folk-tinged-pop, on 31st March (I TUNES two Week Exclusive) & Cd Digipack on April 29th through Gung-Ho Recordings.

Petter Winnberg met his band, The Pix, consisting of Nils Törnqvist (drums), Mikael Svensson (synthesizer), and Andreas Gabrielsson (bass), when he was 17. In 2006 he was introduced to President Bongo from GusGus, who in turn summoned his people to work on their first long player: Gunnar Orn Tynes aka Illi Vill from Múm, Samuel J. Samuelsson, Urdur Hakondottir from GusGus, Thorsteinn Einarsson and everyone over at Studio Flis. The outcome was Easily Tricked.
Opening the 9 track opus is the subtly rousing ‘As A Soul,’ with it’s hazy synths and gentle kick-drum. Sultry strings open ‘Nevermind’ before Petter’s scorched vocals drift in, underpinned by a balmy cello. The carefree nostalgia of ‘Weak’ is next, backed by soothing electronica and a sing-along chorus. ‘Let The Rain’ is a moodier affair, with Petter’s soaring voice driven by a nagging bass, and ‘Easily Tricked’ ushers in fuzzy basslines and sunny vocals for a reggae vibe. Petter’s hushed tones tenderly draw the album to a close with ‘Move On.’
“The President is a big Serge Gainsbourg fan, and I love Chet Baker,” says Petter, “but I don’t think anything has influenced me on this album as much as the President’s guiding hand. And it’s not like Serge or Chet even contributed to it.”
Born in 1979, Petter Winnberg is a singer, songwriter and bass player. He studied music at an early age under the guidance of his father, Lennart Winnberg: first cello, then double bass, and finally the electric bass, which he has been obsessed with ever since. Playing jazz, blues and reggae with numerous international musicians, Petter dropped his first record in 1998 with house outfit Urban Electro Squad, who released four singles between 1998 and 2001, with long-player ‘Fulgur’ in 2000. That same year, Petter won the Best Swedish Jazz award for his album Far from Alone with Linda Svantesson. In 2004, after a short break in the mountains practicing kung-fu, Petter collaborated with old friend and schoolmate, Thorsteinn Einarsson – the reunion led to the formation of Hjalmar, who released two critically acclaimed albums, Hljodlega af stad and Hjalmar, in Sweden.
Now with Easily Tricked under his sleeve, Petter is looking forward to coming to the UK to perform: “I think the Swedish and UK scenes are similar. We’ve been trying to copy you guys for quite some time and have got quite good at it. I’m really looking forward to testing out your live scene. And your ladies.” Indeed.
