Petti is, without a doubt, the pioneer of a genre we can call ‘feral folk.’ He began his musical career in 1989, at age 16, as a guitarist with Bidasoa Noise Hole, and played with that rock band in numerous concerts all over the Basque Country and beyond. After their breakup, he became the lead singer in a more experimental group called Zup, until 1997 when he decided to embark on a solo career. It was then that this feral-folk jewel burst onto the Basque music scene--a guitarist and bluesman with an unmistakable voice and an interpretation of life and living as poetic as it was wild. His first album was a collection of songs whose utter existentialism often shocks: Amets bat (A Dream; 1999). This was followed by Arrazoiak (The Reasons; 2001), which presents the most fundamental and acoustic side of Petti’s work, from lyrics to melodies and arrangements, and himself as a highly skilled singer and interpreter of songs. His next CD, Etxeko uzta (The Harvest at Home; 2002), conversely shows Petti at his directest and most electric. His mission moves to the beat of those musicians who have always inhabited the borderline.
