Loves Park studio is in an old trolley station, and Frye credits the environment and Prasse’s excellent musical instincts for giving the record a unique sound. “We didn’t make it super loud, because we wanted to give the listener opportunities to hear something different each time they listen to it,” he said. “You can hear a bus, a helicopter, a guy who screamed, and my guitar plug into my amp. It’s all meant to be there.“

"LIFE IN THE MIRROR" by Spencer Frye - CD Review / Flagpole Magazine "I approached Spencer Frye’s debut album Life in the Mirror with some skepticism. With the first line “sipping on courvoisier” I braced myself for another cliché album about the highs and lows of being in a band.

Fortunately, I was pleasantly surprised by the 11-track album in which at no point does Frye moan on and on about some long lost love or how much he misses his hometown.

While there certainly are plenty of cliché lines, such as “I know boys in pickup trucks and girls in haltertops” there is also a level of depth and maturity to each song that goes beyond the typical tales of loneliness and loss by poor old, misunderstood musicians.

The rhythm to the last song, “Whistling Drifter,” moves like a lost soldier stomping along and Frye allows the music to speak for itself by not throwing in a bunch of sad, depressing lyrics... if you’re looking for an unpretentious, old-fashioned album with catchy melodies and a hint of sorrow, Life in the Mirror is a good pick."
